| And the two were naked, both Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed. | And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed.
| 1a | Ὁ δὲ ὄφις ἦν φρονιμώτατος πάντων τῶν θηρίων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ὧν ἐποίησεν κύριος ὁ θεός· καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ὄφις τῇ γυναικί Τί ὅτι εἶπεν ὁ θεός Οὐ μὴ φάγητε ἀπὸ παντὸς ξύλου τοῦ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ; | Now the serpent was the most crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which the Lord God made, and the serpent said to the woman, Why has God said, Eat not of every tree of the garden? | The Fall. Gn.3.1-24 | Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?"
| 2 | καὶ εἶπεν ἡ γυνὴ τῷ ὄφει Ἀπὸ καρποῦ ξύλου τοῦ παραδείσου φαγόμεθα, | And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, | And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; | וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה אֶל־הַנָּחָשׁ מִפְּרִי עֵץ־הַגָּן נֹאכֵל׃ | 2 | |
| but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. | but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
| 4 | καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ὄφις τῇ γυναικί Οὐ θανάτῳ ἀποθανεῖσθε· | And the serpent said to the woman, Ye shall not surely die. | But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die.
| For God knew that in whatever day you should eat of it your eyes would be opened, and you would be as gods, knowing good and evil. | For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
| And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes to look upon and beautiful to contemplate, and having taken of its fruit she ate, and she gave to her husband also with her, and they ate. | So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate.
| And the eyes of both were opened, and they perceived that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons to go round them. | Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.
| And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the afternoon; and both Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of the garden. | And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
| 9 | καὶ ἐκάλεσεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν Αδαμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Αδαμ, ποῦ εἶ; | And the Lord God called Adam and said to him, Adam, where are you? | But the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"
| And he said to him, I heard your voice as you walked in the garden, and I feared because I was naked and I hid myself. | And he said, "I heard the sound of thee in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."
| 11 | καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τίς ἀνήγγειλέν σοι ὅτι γυμνὸς εἶ; μὴ ἀπὸ τοῦ ξύλου, οὗ ἐνετειλάμην σοι τούτου μόνου μὴ φαγεῖν ἀπ' αὐτοῦ, ἔφαγες; | And God said to him, Who told you that you was naked, unless you have eaten of the tree concerning which I charged you of it alone not to eat? | He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"
| And Adam said, The woman whom you gave to be with me-- she gave me of the tree and I ate. | The man said, "The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate."
| And the Lord God said to the woman, Why have you done this? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me and I ate. | Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I ate."
And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this you are cursed above all cattle and all the brutes of the earth, on your breast and belly you shall go, and you shall eat earth all the days of your life. | The LORD God said to the serpent, cursed are you above all cattle, and above all wild animals; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed, he shall watch against your head, and you shall watch against his heel. | I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."

And to the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your pains and your groanings; in pain you shall bring forth children, and your submission shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. | To the woman he said, in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."

And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and eaten of the tree concerning which I charged you of it only not to eat-- of that you have eaten, cursed [is] the ground in your labours, in pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life. | And to Adam he said, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life; | וּלְאָדָם אָמַר כִּי־שָׁמַעְתָּ לְקֹול אִשְׁתֶּךָ וַתֹּאכַל מִן־הָעֵץ אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִיךָ לֵאמֹר לֹא תֹאכַל מִמֶּנּו אֲרוּרָה הָאֲדָמָה בַּעֲבוּרֶךָ בְּעִצָּבֹון תֹּאכֲלֶנָּה כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּיךָ׃ |

In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread until you return to the earth out of which you was taken, for earth you are and to earth you shall return. | In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
| And Adam called the name of his wife Life, because she was the mother of all living. | The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
