| 1 | Ἀναβλέψας δὲ Ιακωβ εἶδεν καὶ ἰδοὺ Ησαυ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ἐρχόμενος καὶ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ' αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐπιδιεῖλεν Ιακωβ τὰ παιδία ἐπὶ Λειαν καὶ Ραχηλ καὶ τὰς δύο παιδίσκας |
And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and beheld, and lo! Esau his brother coming, and four hundred men with him; and Jacob divided the children to Lea and to Rachel, and the two handmaidens. | Peniel - Jacob meets Esau - Jacob's altar at Shechem. Gn.33.1-20 | And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. | 2 | καὶ ἐποίησεν τὰς δύο παιδίσκας καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτῶν ἐν πρώτοις καὶ Λειαν καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτῆς ὀπίσω καὶ Ραχηλ καὶ Ιωσηφ ἐσχάτους. |
And he put the two handmaidens and their children with the first, and Lea and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. | | And he put the maids with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all. | וַיָּשֶׂם אֶת־הַשְּׁפָחֹות וְאֶת־יַלְדֵיהֶן רִאשֹׁנָה וְאֶת־לֵאָה וִילָדֶיהָ אַחֲרֹנִים וְאֶת־רָחֵל וְאֶת־יֹוסֵף אַחֲרֹנִים׃ |

| 3 | αὐτὸς δὲ προῆλθεν ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν καὶ προσεκύνησεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἑπτάκις ἕως τοῦ ἐγγίσαι τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ. |
But he advanced himself before them, and did reverence to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother. | | He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. | וְהוּא עָבַר לִפְנֵיהֶם וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ אַרְצָה שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים עַד־גִּשְׁתֹּו עַד־אָחִיו׃ |

| 4 | καὶ προσέδραμεν Ησαυ εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτῷ καὶ περιλαβὼν αὐτὸν ἐφίλησεν καὶ προσέπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἀμφότεροι. |
And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept. | | But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. | וַיָּרָץ עֵשָׂו לִקְרָאתֹו וַיְחַבְּקֵהוּ וַיִּפֹּל עַל־צַוָּארָו וַיִּשָּׁקֵהוּ וַיִּבְכּוּ׃ |

| 5 | καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἶδεν τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὰ παιδία καὶ εἶπεν Τί ταῦτά σοί ἐστιν; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Τὰ παιδία, οἷς ἠλέησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν παῖδά σου. |
And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to you? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed your servant. | | And when Esau raised his eyes and saw the women and children, he said, "Who are these with you?" Jacob said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant." | וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת־עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא אֶת־הַנָּשִׁים וְאֶת־הַיְלָדִים וַיֹּאמֶר מִי־אֵלֶּה לָּךְ וַיֹּאמַר הַיְלָדִים אֲשֶׁר־חָןַן אֱלֹהִים אֶת־עַבְדֶּךָ׃ |

| 6 | καὶ προσήγγισαν αἱ παιδίσκαι καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν καὶ προσεκύνησαν, |
And the maid-servants and their children drew near and did reverence. | | Then the maids drew near, they and their children, and bowed down; | וַתִּגַּשְׁןָ הַשְּׁפָחֹות הֵנָּה וְיַלְדֵיהֶן וַתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶיןָ׃ |

| 7 | καὶ προσήγγισεν Λεια καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς καὶ προσεκύνησαν, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα προσήγγισεν Ραχηλ καὶ Ιωσηφ καὶ προσεκύνησαν. |
And Lea and her children drew near and did reverence; and after this drew near Rachel and Joseph, and did reverence. | | Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down; and last Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down. | וַתִּגַּשׁ גַּם־לֵאָה וִילָדֶיהָ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ וְאַחַר נִגַּשׁ יֹוסֵף וְרָחֵל וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ׃ |

| 8 | καὶ εἶπεν Τί ταῦτά σοί ἐστιν, πᾶσαι αἱ παρεμβολαὶ αὗται, αἷς ἀπήντηκα; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἵνα εὕρῃ ὁ παῖς σου χάριν ἐναντίον σου, κύριε. |
And he said, What are these things to you, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That your servant might find grace in your sight, my lord. | | Esau said, "What do you mean by all this company which I met?" Jacob answered, "To find favor in the sight of my lord." | וַיֹּאמֶר מִי לְךָ כָּל־הַמַּחֲנֶה הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר פָּגָשְׁתִּי וַיֹּאמֶר לִמְצֹא־חֵן בְּעֵינֵי אֲדֹנִי׃ |

| 9 | εἶπεν δὲ Ησαυ Ἔστιν μοι πολλά, ἄδελφε· ἔστω σοι τὰ σά. |
And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep your own. | | But Esau said, "I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself." | וַיֹּאמֶר עֵשָׂו יֶשׁ־לִי רָב אָחִי יְהִי לְךָ אֲשֶׁר־לָךְ׃ |

| 10 | εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ Εἰ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, δέξαι τὰ δῶρα διὰ τῶν ἐμῶν χειρῶν· ἕνεκεν τούτου εἶδον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου, ὡς ἄν τις ἴδοι πρόσωπον θεοῦ, καὶ εὐδοκήσεις με· |
And Jacob said, If I have found grace in your sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen your face, as if any one should see the face of God, and you shall be well-pleased with me. | | Jacob said, "No, I pray you, if I have found favor in your sight, then accept my present from my hand; for truly to see your face is like seeing the face of God, with such favor have you received me. | וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אַל־נָא אִם־נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ וְלָקַחְתָּ מִנְחָתִי מִיָּדִי כִּי עַל־כֵּן רָאִיתִי פָנֶיךָ כִּרְאֹת פְּנֵי אֱלֹהִים וַתִּרְצֵנִי׃ |

| 11 | λαβὲ τὰς εὐλογίας μου, ἃς ἤνεγκά σοι, ὅτι ἠλέησέν με ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἔστιν μοι πάντα. καὶ ἐβιάσατο αὐτόν, καὶ ἔλαβεν. |
Receive my blessings, which I have brought you, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he constrained him, and he took [them]. | | Accept, I pray you, my gift that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough." Thus he urged him, and he took it. | קַח־נָא אֶת־בִּרְכָתִי אֲשֶׁר הֻבָאת לָךְ כִּי־חַנַּנִי אֱלֹהִים וְכִי יֶשׁ־לִי־כֹל וַיִּפְצַר־בֹּו וַיִּקָּח׃ |

| 12 | καὶ εἶπεν Ἀπάραντες πορευσόμεθα ἐπ' εὐθεῖαν. |
And he said, Let us depart, and proceed right onward. | | Then Esau said, "Let us journey on our way, and I will go before you." | וַיֹּאמֶר נִסְעָה וְנֵלֵכָה וְאֵלְכָה לְנֶגְדֶּךָ׃ |

| 13 | εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ὁ κύριός μου γινώσκει ὅτι τὰ παιδία ἁπαλώτερα καὶ τὰ πρόβατα καὶ αἱ βόες λοχεύονται ἐπ' ἐμέ· ἐὰν οὖν καταδιώξω αὐτοὺς ἡμέραν μίαν, ἀποθανοῦνται πάντα τὰ κτήνη. |
And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die. | | But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the flocks and herds giving suck are a care to me; and if they are overdriven for one day, all the flocks will die. | וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲדֹנִי יֹדֵעַ כִּי־הַיְלָדִים רַכִּים וְהַצֹּאן וְהַבָּקָר עָלֹות עָלָי וּדְפָקוּם יֹום אֶחָד וָמֵתוּ כָּל־הַצֹּאן׃ |

| 14 | προελθέτω ὁ κύριός μου ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ παιδός, ἐγὼ δὲ ἐνισχύσω ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ κατὰ σχολὴν τῆς πορεύσεως τῆς ἐναντίον μου καὶ κατὰ πόδα τῶν παιδαρίων ἕως τοῦ με ἐλθεῖν πρὸς τὸν κύριόν μου εἰς Σηιρ. |
Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir. | | Let my lord pass on before his servant, and I will lead on slowly, according to the pace of the cattle which are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Se'ir." | יַעֲבָר־נָא אֲדֹנִי לִפְנֵי עַבְדֹּו וַאֲנִי אֶתְנָהֲלָה לְאִטִּי לְרֶגֶל הַמְּלָאכָה אֲשֶׁר־לְפָנַי וּלְרֶגֶל הַיְלָדִים עַד אֲשֶׁר־אָבֹא אֶל־אֲדֹנִי שֵׂעִירָה׃ |

| 15 | εἶπεν δὲ Ησαυ Καταλείψω μετὰ σοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ μετ' ἐμοῦ. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἵνα τί τοῦτο; ἱκανὸν ὅτι εὗρον χάριν ἐναντίον σου, κύριε. |
And Esau said, I will leave with you some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? it is enough that I have found favour before you, [my] lord. | | So Esau said, "Let me leave with you some of the men who are with me." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord." | וַיֹּאמֶר עֵשָׂו אַצִּיגָה־נָּא עִמְּךָ מִן־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתִּי וַיֹּאמֶר לָמָּה זֶּה אֶמְצָא־חֵן בְּעֵינֵי אֲדֹנִי׃ |

| 16 | ἀπέστρεψεν δὲ Ησαυ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς Σηιρ. |
And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir. | | So Esau returned that day on his way to Se'ir. | וַיָּשָׁב בַּיֹּום הַהוּא עֵשָׂו לְדַרְכֹּו שֵׂעִירָה׃ |

| 17 | Καὶ Ιακωβ ἀπαίρει εἰς Σκηνάς· καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ ἐκεῖ οἰκίας καὶ τοῖς κτήνεσιν αὐτοῦ ἐποίησεν σκηνάς· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Σκηναί. |
And Jacob departs to his tents; and he made for himself there habitations, and for his cattle he made booths; therefore he called the name of that place, Booths. | | But Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house, and made booths for his cattle; therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. | וְיַעֲקֹב נָסַע סֻכֹּתָה וַיִּבֶן לֹו בָּיִת וּלְמִקְנֵהוּ עָשָׂה סֻכֹּת עַל־כֵּן קָרָא שֵׁם־הַמָּקֹום סֻכֹּות׃ ס |
17 |
| 18 | καὶ ἦλθεν Ιακωβ εἰς Σαλημ πόλιν Σικιμων, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν γῇ Χανααν, ὅτε ἦλθεν ἐκ τῆς Μεσοποταμίας Συρίας, καὶ παρενέβαλεν κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς πόλεως. |
And Jacob came to Salem, a city of Secima, which is in the land of Chanaan, when he departed out of Mesopotamia of Syria, and took up a position in front of the city. | | And Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram; and he camped before the city. | וַיָּבֹא יַעֲקֹב שָׁלֵם עִיר שְׁכֶם אֲשֶׁר בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן בְּבֹאֹו מִפַּדַּן אֲרָם וַיִּחַן אֶת־פְּנֵי הָעִיר׃ |

| 19 | καὶ ἐκτήσατο τὴν μερίδα τοῦ ἀγροῦ, οὗ ἔστησεν ἐκεῖ τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ, παρὰ Εμμωρ πατρὸς Συχεμ ἑκατὸν ἀμνῶν |
And he bought the portion of the field, where he pitched his tent, of Emmor the father of Sychem, for a hundred lambs. | | And from the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, he bought for a hundred pieces of money the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent. | וַיִּקֶן אֶת־חֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר נָטָה־שָׁם אָהֳלֹו מִיַּד בְּנֵי־חֲמֹור אֲבִי שְׁכֶם בְּמֵאָה קְשִׂיטָה׃ |

| 20 | καὶ ἔστησεν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο τὸν θεὸν Ισραηλ. |
And he set up there an alter, and called on the God of Israel. | | There he erected an alter and called it El-El'ohe-Is'rael. | וַיַּצֶּב־שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ וַיִּקְרָא־לֹו אֵל אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ ס |
