And Joseph could not refrain himself when all were standing by him, but said, Dismiss all from me; and no one stood near Joseph, when he made himself known to his brethren. | Joseph tells his brothers who he is. Gn.45.1-28 | Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him; and he cried, "Make every one go out from me." So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers.
And he uttered his voice with weeping; and all the Egyptians heard, and it was reported to the house of Pharao. | | And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it.
And Joseph said to his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him, for they were troubled. | | And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph; is my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence.
And Joseph said to his brethren, Draw nigh to me; and they drew nigh; and he said, I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. | | So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, I pray you." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.
Now then be not grieved, and let it not seem hard to you that you sold me hither, for God sent me before you for life. | | And now do not be distressed, or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.
For this second year there is famine on the earth, and there are yet five years remaining, in which there is to be neither ploughing, nor mowing. | | For the famine has been in the land these two years; and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest.
For God sent me before you, that there might be left to you a remnant upon the earth, even to nourish a great remnant of you. | | And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.
Now then you did not send me hither, but God; and he hath made me as a father of Pharao, and lord of all his house, and ruler of all the land of Egypt. | | So it was not you who sent me here, but God; and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Hasten, therefore, and go up to my father, and say to him, These things says your son Joseph; God has made me lord of all the land of Egypt; come down therefore to me, and tarry not. | | Make haste and go up to my father and say to him, 'Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry; | מַהֲרוּ וַעֲלוּ אֶל־אָבִי וַאֲמַרְתֶּם אֵלָיו כֹּה אָמַר בִּנְךָ יֹוסֵף שָׂמַנִי אֱלֹהִים לְאָדֹון לְכָל־מִצְרָיִם רְדָה אֵלַי אַל־תַּעֲמֹד׃ |
9 |
And you shall dwell in the land of Gesem of Arabia; and you shall be near me, you and your sons, and your sons' sons, your sheep and your oxen, and whatsoever things are thine. | | you shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children's children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have; | וְיָשַׁבְתָּ בְאֶרֶץ־גֹּשֶׁן וְהָיִיתָ קָרֹוב אֵלַי אַתָּה וּבָנֶיךָ וּבְנֵי בָנֶיךָ וְצֹאנְךָ וּבְקָרְךָ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־לָךְ׃ |
10 |
And I will nourish you there: for the famine is yet for five years; lest you be consumed, and your sons, and all your possessions. | | and there I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come; lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty.'
Behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. | | And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you.
Report, therefore, to my father all my glory in Egypt, and all things that you have seen, and make haste and bring down my father hither. | | You must tell my father of all my splendor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Make haste and bring my father down here."
And he fell on his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept on him; and Benjamin wept on his neck. | | Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.
And he kissed all his brethren, and wept on them; and after these things his brethren spoke to him. | | And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked with him.
And the report was carried into the house of Pharao, saying, Joseph's brethren are come; and Pharao was glad, and his household. | | When the report was heard in Pharaoh's house, "Joseph's brothers have come," it pleased Pharaoh and his servants well.
And Pharao said to Joseph, Say to your brethren, Do this; fill your wagons, and depart into the land of Chanaan. | | And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Say to your brothers, 'Do this: load your beasts and go back to the land of Canaan; | וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל־יֹוסֵף אֱמֹר אֶל־אַחֶיךָ זֹאת עֲשׂוּ טַעֲנוּ אֶת־בְּעִירְכֶם וּלְכוּ־בֹאוּ אַרְצָה כְּנָעַן׃ |
17 |
And take up your father, and your possessions, and come to me; and I will give you of all the goods of Egypt, and you shall eat the marrow of the land. | | and take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.'
And do you charge them thus; that they should take for them wagons out of the land of Egypt, for your little ones, and for your wives; and take up your father, and come. | | Command them also, 'Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.
And be not sparing in regard to your property, for all the good of Egypt shall be yours. | | Give no thought to your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.'"
And the children of Israel did so; and Joseph gave to them wagons, according to the words spoken by king Pharao; and he gave them provision for the journey. | | The sons of Israel did so; and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey.
And he gave to them all two sets of raiment apiece; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of gold, and five changes of raiment. | | To each and all of them he gave festal garments; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five festal garments.
And to his father he sent [presents] at the same rate, and ten asses, bearing some of all the good things of Egypt, and ten mules, bearing bread for his father for your journey. | | To his father he sent as follows: ten asses loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten she-asses loaded with grain, bread, and provision for his father on the journey.
And he sent away his brethren, and they went; and he said to them, Be not angry by the way. | | Then he sent his brothers away, and as they departed, he said to them, "Do not quarrel on the way."
And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Chanaan, to Jacob their father. | | So they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob.
And they reported to him, saying, Your son Joseph is living, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt; and Jacob was amazed, for he did not believe them. | | And they told him, "Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt." And his heart fainted, for he did not believe them.
But they spoke to him all the words uttered by Joseph, whatsoever he said to them; and having seen the chariots which Joseph sent to take him up, the spirit of Jacob their father revived. | | But when they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived; | וַיְדַבְּרוּ אֵלָיו אֵת כָּל־דִּבְרֵי יֹוסֵף אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֲלֵהֶם וַיַּרְא אֶת־הָעֲגָלֹות אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַח יֹוסֵף לָשֵׂאת אֹתֹו וַתְּחִי רוּחַ יַעֲקֹב אֲבִיהֶם׃ |
27 |
And Israel said, It is a great thing for me if Joseph my son is yet alive. I will go and see him before I die. | | And Israel said, "It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive; I will go and see him before I die."
