| 1 | Ἑγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Ιωσηφ ὅτι Ὁ πατήρ σου ἐνοχλεῖται. καὶ ἀναλαβὼν τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, τὸν Μανασση καὶ τὸν Εφραιμ, ἦλθεν πρὸς Ιακωβ. | And it came to pass after these things, that it was reported to Joseph, Behold, your father is ill; and, having taken his two sons, Manasse and Ephraim, he came to Jacob. | Jacob blesses Ephraim and Manasseh. Gn.48.1-22 | After this Joseph was told, "Behold, your father is ill"; so he took with him his two sons, Manas'seh and E'phraim. | וַיְהִי אַחֲרֵי הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר לְיֹוסֵף הִנֵּה אָבִיךָ חֹלֶה וַיִּקַּח אֶת־שְׁנֵי בָנָיו עִמֹּו אֶת־מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶת־אֶפְרָיִם׃ | 1 |
| 2 | ἀπηγγέλη δὲ τῷ Ιακωβ λέγοντες Ἰδοὺ ὁ υἱός σου Ιωσηφ ἔρχεται πρὸς σέ. καὶ ἐνισχύσας Ισραηλ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην. | And it was reported to Jacob, saying, Behold, your son Joseph is coming to you; and Israel having strengthened himself, sat upon the bed. | And it was told to Jacob, "Your son Joseph has come to you"; then Israel summoned his strength, and sat up in bed. | וַיַּגֵּד לְיַעֲקֹב וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה בִּנְךָ יֹוסֵף בָּא אֵלֶיךָ וַיִּתְחַזֵּק יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֵּשֶׁב עַל־הַמִּטָּה׃ | 2 | |
| 3 | καὶ εἶπεν Ιακωβ τῷ Ιωσηφ Ὁ θεός μου ὤφθη μοι ἐν Λουζα ἐν γῇ Χανααν καὶ εὐλόγησέν με | And Jacob said to Joseph, My God appeared to me in Luza, in the land of Chanaan, and blessed me, | And Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, | וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל־יֹוסֵף אֵל שַׁדַּי נִרְאָה־אֵלַי בְּלוּז בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתִי׃ | 3 | |
| 4 | καὶ εἶπέν μοι Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ αὐξανῶ σε καὶ πληθυνῶ σε καὶ ποιήσω σε εἰς συναγωγὰς ἐθνῶν καὶ δώσω σοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σὲ εἰς κατάσχεσιν αἰώνιον. | and said to me, Behold, I will increase you, and multiply you, and will make of you multitudes of nations; and I will give this land to you, and to your seed after you, for an everlasting possession. | and said to me, 'Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your descendants after you for an everlasting possession.' | וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הִנְנִי מַפְרְךָ וְהִרְבִּיתִךָ וּנְתַתִּיךָ לִקְהַל עַמִּים וְנָתַתִּי אֶת־הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת לְזַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ אֲחֻזַּת עֹולָם׃ | 4 | |
| 5 | νῦν οὖν οἱ δύο υἱοί σου οἱ γενόμενοί σοι ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ πρὸ τοῦ με ἐλθεῖν πρὸς σὲ εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἐμοί εἰσιν, Εφραιμ καὶ Μανασση ὡς Ρουβην καὶ Συμεων ἔσονταί μοι· | Now then your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt, before I came to you into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasse, as Ruben and Symeon they shall be mine. | And now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; E'phraim and Manas'seh shall be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are. | וְעַתָּה שְׁנֵי־בָנֶיךָ הַנֹּולָדִים לְךָ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם עַד־בֹּאִי אֵלֶיךָ מִצְרַיְמָה לִי־הֵם אֶפְרַיִם וּמְנַשֶּׁה כִּרְאוּבֵן וְשִׁמְעֹון יִהְיוּ־לִי׃ | 5 | |
| 6 | τὰ δὲ ἔκγονα, ἃ ἐὰν γεννήσῃς μετὰ ταῦτα, σοὶ ἔσονται, ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν κληθήσονται ἐν τοῖς ἐκείνων κλήροις. | And the children which you shall beget hereafter, shall be in the name of their brethren; they shall be named after their inheritances. | And the offspring born to you after them shall be yours; they shall be called by the name of their brothers in their inheritance. | וּמֹולַדְתְּךָ אֲשֶׁר־הֹולַדְתָּ אַחֲרֵיהֶם לְךָ יִהְיוּ עַל שֵׁם אֲחֵיהֶם יִקָּרְאוּ בְּנַחֲלָתָם׃ | 6 | |
| 7 | ἐγὼ δὲ ἡνίκα ἠρχόμην ἐκ Μεσοποταμίας τῆς Συρίας, ἀπέθανεν Ραχηλ ἡ μήτηρ σου ἐν γῇ Χανααν ἐγγίζοντός μου κατὰ τὸν ἱππόδρομον χαβραθα τῆς γῆς τοῦ ἐλθεῖν Εφραθα, καὶ κατώρυξα αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τοῦ ἱπποδρόμου [αὕτη ἐστὶν Βαιθλεεμ]. - | And as for me, when I came out of Mesopotamia of Syria, Rachel, your mother, died in the land of Chanaan, as I drew night to the horse-course of Chabratha of the land [of Chanaan], so as to come to Ephratha; and I buried her in the road of the course; this is Bethlehem. | For when I came from Paddan, Rachel to my sorrow died in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)." | וַאֲנִי בְּבֹאִי מִפַּדָּן מֵתָה עָלַי רָחֵל בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן בַּדֶּרֶךְ בְּעֹוד כִּבְרַת־אֶרֶץ לָבֹא אֶפְרָתָה וָאֶקְבְּרֶהָ שָּׁם בְּדֶרֶךְ אֶפְרָת הִוא בֵּית לָחֶם׃ | 7 | |
| 8 | ἰδὼν δὲ Ισραηλ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ιωσηφ εἶπεν Τίνες σοι οὗτοι; | And when Israel saw the sons of Joseph, he said, Who are these to you? | When Israel saw Joseph's sons, he said, "Who are these?" | וַיַּרְא יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־בְּנֵי יֹוסֵף וַיֹּאמֶר מִי־אֵלֶּה׃ | 8 | |
| 9 | εἶπεν δὲ Ιωσηφ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ Υἱοί μού εἰσιν, οὓς ἔδωκέν μοι ὁ θεὸς ἐνταῦθα. καὶ εἶπεν Ιακωβ Προσάγαγέ μοι αὐτούς, ἵνα εὐλογήσω αὐτούς. | And Joseph said to his father, They are my sons, whom God gave me here; and Jacob said, Bring me them, that I may bless them. | Joseph said to his father, "They are my sons, whom God has given me here." And he said, "Bring them to me, I pray you, that I may bless them." | וַיֹּאמֶר יֹוסֵף אֶל־אָבִיו בָּנַי הֵם אֲשֶׁר־נָתַן־לִי אֱלֹהִים בָּזֶה וַיֹּאמַר קָחֶם־נָא אֵלַי וַאֲבָרֲכֵם׃ | 9 | |
| 10 | οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ Ισραηλ ἐβαρυώπησαν ἀπὸ τοῦ γήρους, καὶ οὐκ ἠδύνατο βλέπειν· καὶ ἤγγισεν αὐτοὺς πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ἐφίλησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ περιέλαβεν αὐτούς. | Now the eyes of Israel were dim through age, and he could not see; and he brought them near to him, and he kissed them, and embraced them. | Now the eyes of Israel were dim with age, so that he could not see. So Joseph brought them near him; and he kissed them and embraced them. | וְעֵינֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּבְדוּ מִזֹּקֶן לֹא יוּכַל לִרְאֹות וַיַּגֵּשׁ אֹתָם אֵלָיו וַיִּשַּׁק לָהֶם וַיְחַבֵּק לָהֶם׃ | 10 | |
| 11 | καὶ εἶπεν Ισραηλ πρὸς Ιωσηφ Ἰδοὺ τοῦ προσώπου σου οὐκ ἐστερήθην, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔδειξέν μοι ὁ θεὸς καὶ τὸ σπέρμα σου. | And Israel said to Joseph, Behold, I have not been deprived of [seeing] your face, and lo! God has showed me your seed also. | And Israel said to Joseph, "I had not thought to see your face; and lo, God has let me see your children also." | וַיֹּאמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יֹוסֵף רְאֹה פָנֶיךָ לֹא פִלָּלְתִּי וְהִנֵּה הֶרְאָה אֹתִי אֱלֹהִים גַּם אֶת־זַרְעֶךָ׃ | 11 | |
| 12 | καὶ ἐξήγαγεν Ιωσηφ αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῶν γονάτων αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. | And Joseph brought them out from [between] his knees, and they did reverence to him, with their face to the ground. | Then Joseph removed them from his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. | וַיֹּוצֵא יֹוסֵף אֹתָם מֵעִם בִּרְכָּיו וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לְאַפָּיו אָרְצָה׃ | 12 | |
| 13 | λαβὼν δὲ Ιωσηφ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, τόν τε Εφραιμ ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν δὲ Ισραηλ, τὸν δὲ Μανασση ἐν τῇ ἀριστερᾷ ἐκ δεξιῶν δὲ Ισραηλ, ἤγγισεν αὐτοὺς αὐτῷ. | And Joseph took his two sons, both Ephraim in his right hand, but on the left of Israel, and Manasse on his left hand, but on the right of Israel, and brought them near to him. | And Joseph took them both, E'phraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manas'seh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near him. | וַיִּקַּח יֹוסֵף אֶת־שְׁנֵיהֶמ אֶת־אֶפְרַיִם בִּימִינֹו מִשְּׂמֹאל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת־מְנַשֶּׁה בִשְׂמֹאלֹו מִימִין יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּגֵּשׁ אֵלָיו׃ | 13 | |
| 14 | ἐκτείνας δὲ Ισραηλ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν δεξιὰν ἐπέβαλεν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Εφραιμ - οὗτος δὲ ἦν ὁ νεώτερος - καὶ τὴν ἀριστερὰν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Μανασση, ἐναλλὰξ τὰς χεῖρας. | But Israel having stretched out his right hand, laid it on the head of Ephraim, and he was the younger; and his left hand on the head of Manasse, [guiding] his hands crosswise. | And Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it upon the head of E'phraim, who was the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manas'seh, crossing his hands, for Manas'seh was the first-born. | וַיִּשְׁלַח יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־יְמִינֹו וַיָּשֶׁת עַל־רֹאשׁ אֶפְרַיִם וְהוּא הַצָּעִיר וְאֶת־שְׂמֹאלֹו עַל־רֹאשׁ מְנַשֶּׁה שִׂכֵּל אֶת־יָדָיו כִּי מְנַשֶּׁה הַבְּכֹור׃ | 14 | |
| 15 | καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεὸς ὁ τρέφων με ἐκ νεότητος ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης, |
And he blessed them and said, The God in whose sight my fathers were well pleasing, [even] Abraam and Isaac, the God who continues to feed me from my youth until this day; | And he blessed Joseph, and said, the God who has led me all my life long to this day, | וַיְבָרֶךְ אֶת־יֹוסֵף וַיֹּאמַר
הָאֱלֹהִים הָרֹעֶה אֹתִי מֵעֹודִי עַד־הַיֹּום הַזֶּה׃ |

| 16 | ὁ ἄγγελος ὁ ῥυόμενός με ἐκ πάντων τῶν κακῶν εὐλογήσαι τὰ παιδία ταῦτα, καὶ ἐπικληθήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸ ὄνομά μου καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῶν πατέρων μου Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ, καὶ πληθυνθείησαν εἰς πλῆθος πολὺ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. |
the angel who delivers me from all evils, bless these boys, and my name shall be called upon them, and the name of my fathers, Abraam and Isaac; and let them be increased to a great multitude on the earth. | the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and in them let my name be perpetuated, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth." | הַמַּלְאָךְ הַגֹּאֵל אֹתִי מִכָּל־רָע יְבָרֵךְ אֶת־הַנְּעָרִים וְיִקָּרֵא בָהֶם שְׁמִי וְשֵׁם אֲבֹתַי אַבְרָהָם וְיִצְחָק וְיִדְגּוּ לָרֹב בְּקֶרֶב הָאָרֶץ׃ |

| 17 | ἰδὼν δὲ Ιωσηφ ὅτι ἐπέβαλεν ὁ πατὴρ τὴν δεξιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Εφραιμ, βαρὺ αὐτῷ κατεφάνη, καὶ ἀντελάβετο Ιωσηφ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἀφελεῖν αὐτὴν ἀπὸ τῆς κεφαλῆς Εφραιμ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Μανασση. | And Joseph having seen that his father put his right hand on the head of Ephraim-- it seemed grievous to him; and Joseph took hold of the hand of his father, to remove it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasse. | When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of E'phraim, it displeased him; and he took his father's hand, to remove it from E'phraim's head to Manas'seh's head. | וַיַּרְא יֹוסֵף כִּי־יָשִׁית אָבִיו יַד־יְמִינֹו עַל־רֹאשׁ אֶפְרַיִם וַיֵּרַע בְּעֵינָיו וַיִּתְמֹךְ יַד־אָבִיו לְהָסִיר אֹתָהּ מֵעַל רֹאשׁ־אֶפְרַיִם עַל־רֹאשׁ מְנַשֶּׁה׃ | 17 | |
| 18 | εἶπεν δὲ Ιωσηφ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ Οὐχ οὕτως, πάτερ· οὗτος γὰρ ὁ πρωτότοκος· ἐπίθες τὴν δεξιάν σου ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ. | And Joseph said to his father, Not so, father; for this is the first-born; lay your right-hand upon his head. | And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father; for this one is the first-born; put your right hand upon his head." | וַיֹּאמֶר יֹוסֵף אֶל־אָבִיו לֹא־כֵן אָבִי כִּי־זֶה הַבְּכֹר שִׂים יְמִינְךָ עַל־רֹאשֹׁו׃ | 18 | |
| 19 | καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν, ἀλλὰ εἶπεν Οἶδα, τέκνον, οἶδα· καὶ οὗτος ἔσται εἰς λαόν, καὶ οὗτος ὑψωθήσεται, ἀλλὰ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ὁ νεώτερος μείζων αὐτοῦ ἔσται, καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ ἔσται εἰς πλῆθος ἐθνῶν. | And he would not, but said, I know it, son, I know it; he also shall be a people, and he shall be exalted, but his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. | But his father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; nevertheless his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations." | וַיְמָאֵן אָבִיו וַיֹּאמֶר יָדַעְתִּי בְנִי יָדַעְתִּי גַּם־הוּא יִהְיֶה־לְּעָם וְגַם־הוּא יִגְדָּל וְאוּלָם אָחִיו הַקָּטֹן יִגְדַּל מִמֶּנּוּ וְזַרְעֹו יִהְיֶה מְלֹא־הַגֹּויִם׃ | 19 | |
| 20 | καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ λέγων καὶ ἔθηκεν τὸν Εφραιμ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ Μανασση. |
And he blessed them in that day, saying, In you shall Israel be blessed, saying, God make you as Ephraim and Manasse; and he set Ephraim before Manasse. | So he blessed them that day, saying, 'God make you as E'phraim and as Manas'seh'"; and thus he put E'phraim before Manas'seh. | וַיְבָרֲכֵם בַּיֹּום הַהוּא לֵאמֹור
יְשִׂמְךָ אֱלֹהִים כְּאֶפְרַיִם וְכִמְנַשֶּׁה |

| 21 | εἶπεν δὲ Ισραηλ τῷ Ιωσηφ Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποθνῄσκω, καὶ ἔσται ὁ θεὸς μεθ' ὑμῶν καὶ ἀποστρέψει ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν· | And Israel said to Joseph, Behold, I die; and God shall be with you, and restore you to the land of your fathers. | Then Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you, and will bring you again to the land of your fathers. | וַיֹּאמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יֹוסֵף הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מֵת וְהָיָה אֱלֹהִים עִםָּכֶם וְהֵשִׁיב אֶתְכֶם אֶל־אֶרֶץ אֲבֹתֵיכֶם׃ | 21 | |
| 22 | ἐγὼ δὲ δίδωμί σοι Σικιμα ἐξαίρετον ὑπὲρ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου, ἣν ἔλαβον ἐκ χειρὸς Αμορραίων ἐν μαχαίρᾳ μου καὶ τόξῳ. | And I give to you Sicima, a select portion above your brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorites with my sword and bow. | Moreover I have given to you rather than to your brothers one mountain slope which I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow." | וַאֲנִי נָתַתִּי לְךָ שְׁכֶם אַחַד עַל־אַחֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר לָקַחְתִּי מִיַּד הָאֱמֹרִי בְּחַרְבִּי וּבְקַשְׁתִּי׃ ף | 22 | |
