Matthew: 9
|
14Then John's disciples came to him with the question: 'Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?' 15Jesus replied, 'Can you expect the bridegroom's friends to go mourning while the bridegroom is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; that will be the time for them to fast.
16'No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on to an old coat; for then the patch tears away from the coat, and leaves a bigger hole. 17No more do you put new wine into old wine-skins; if you do, the skins burst, and then the wine runs out and the skins are spoilt. No, you put new wine into fresh skins; then both are preserved.'

Mark: 2
|
18Once, when John's disciples and the Pharisees were keeping a fast, some people came to him and said, 'Why is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?' 19Jesus said to them, 'Can you expect the bridegroom's friends to fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, there can be no fasting. 20But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and on that day they will fast.
21'No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on to an old coat; if he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and leaves a bigger hole. 22No one puts new wine into old wine-skins, if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and then wine and skins are both lost. Fresh skins for new wine!'

Luke: 5
|
33Then they said to him, 'John's disciples are much given to fasting and the practice of prayer, and so are the disciples of the Pharisees; but yours eat and drink.' 34Jesus replied, 'Can you make the bridegroom's friends fast while the bridegroom is with them? 35But a time will come: the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and that will be the time for them to fast.' 36He told them this parable also: 'No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one; if he does, he will have made a hole in the new cloak, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37Nor does anyone put new wine into old wine-skins; if he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will be wasted, and the skins ruined. 38Fresh skins for new wine! 39And no one after drinking old wine wants new; for he says, "The old wine is good."'
