26 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

47While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared; with him was a great crowd armed with swords and cudgels, sent by the chief priests and the elders of the nation. The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus   Mt.26.47-56 ( Gethsemane ) | Mk.14.43-50 | Lk.22.47-53 | Jn.18.3-12Καὶ ἐτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα ἦλθεν καὶ μετ' αὐτοῦ ὀχλος πολὺς μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων ἀπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων τοῦ λαοῦ.
48The traitor gave them this sign: 'The one I kiss is your man; seize him'; ὁ δὲ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ἐδωκεν αὐτοῖς σημεῖον λέγων, Ὅν ἂν φιλήσω αὐτός ἐστιν· κρατήσατε αὐτόν.
49and stepping forward at once, he said, 'Hail, Rabbi!', and kissed him.
50Jesus replied, 'Friend, do what you are here to do.' Or: Friend, what are you here for? They then came forward, seized Jesus, and held him fast.
51At that moment one of those with Jesus reached for his sword and drew it, and he struck at the High Priest's servant and cut off his ear.
52But Jesus said to him, 'Put up your sword. All who take the sword die by the sword.
53Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to my Father, who would at once send to my aid more than twelve legions of angels? ἢ δοκεῖς ὅτι οὐ δύναμαι παρακαλέσαι τὸν πατέρα μου, καὶ παραστήσει μοι ἀρτι πλείω δώδεκα λεγιῶνας ἀγγέλων;
54But how then could the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that this must be?'
 πῶς οὖν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ ὅτι οὑτως δεῖ γενέσθαὶ;
55At the same time Jesus spoke to the crowd. 'Do you take me for a bandit,' he said, 'that you have come out with swords and cudgels to arrest me? Day after day I sat teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hands on me.
56But this has all happened to fulfil what the prophets wrote.'

Then the disciples all deserted him and ran away.
