And Israel yede forth with alle thingis that he hadde, and he cam to the pit of ooth; and whanne sacrifices weren slayn there to God of his fadir Isaac, |
And Israel taking his journey, with all that he had, came to the well of the oath, and killing victims there to the God of his father Isaac, | Jacob's family goes to Egypt. Gn.46.1-27 |

he herde God bi a visioun in that nyyt clepynge hym, and seiynge to hym, Jacob! Jacob! To whom he answeride, Lo! Y am present. |
He heard him by a vision in the night calling him, and saying to him: Jacob, Jacob. And he answered him: Lo, here I am. | |
| 3 | Ait illi Deus: Ego sum fortissimus Deus patris tui: noli timere, descende in Ægyptum, quia in gentem magnam faciam te ibi. |
God seide to hym, Y am the strongeste God of thi fadir; nyle thou drede, go doun in to Egipt, for Y schal make thee there in to a greet folk; |
God said to him: I am the most mighty God of thy father: fear not, go down into Egypt, for I will make a great nation of thee there. | |
| 4 | Ego descendam tecum illuc, et ego inde adducam te revertentem: Joseph quoque ponet manus suas super oculos tuos. |
Y schal go doun thidir with thee, and Y schal brynge thee turnynge ayen fro thennus, and Joseph schal sette his hond on thin iyen. |
I will go down with thee thither, and will bring thee back again from thence: Joseph also shall put his hands upon thy eyes. | |
| 5 | Surrexit autem Jacob a Puteo juramenti: tuleruntque eum filii cum parvulis et uxoribus suis in plaustris quæ miserat Pharao ad portandum senem, |
Jacob roos fro the pit of ooth, and the sones token him, with her litle children, and wyues, in the waynes whiche Farao hadde sent to bere the eld man, |
And Jacob rose up from the well of the oath: and his sons took him up, with their children and wives in the wagons, which Pharao had sent to carry the old man, | |
| 6 | et omnia quæ possederat in terra Chanaan: venitque in Ægyptum cum omni semine suo, |
and alle thingis whiche he weldide in the lond of Canaan; and he cam in to Egipt with his seed, |
And all that he had in the land of Chanaan, and he came into Egypt with all his seed:" | |

hise sones, and her sones, and douytris, and al the generacioun togidere. |

And Jacob gendride these; alle the soules weren seuene. And alle the men that entriden with Jacob in to Egipt, and yeden out of his thiy, with out the wyues of his sones, weren sixti and sixe. |
All the souls that went with Jacob into Egypt, and that came out of his thigh, besides his sons' wives, sixty-six. | |
