And ye nolden stie, but ye weren vnbileueful to the word of oure Lord God. |
And you would not go up, but being incredulous to the word of the Lord our God, | |
| 27 | murmurastis in tabernaculis vestris, atque dixistis: Odit nos Dominus, et idcirco eduxit nos de terra Ægypti, ut traderet nos in manu Amorrhæi, atque deleret. |
And ye grutchiden in youre tabernaclis, and ye seiden, The Lord hatith vs, and herfor he ledde vs out of the lond of Egipt, that he schulde bitake vs in the hond of Ammorey, and schulde do awei vs. |
You murmured in your tents, and said: The Lord hateth us, and therefore he hath brought us out of the land of Egypt, that he might deliver us into the hand of the Amorrhite, and destroy us. | |
| 28 | Quo ascendemus? nuntii terruerunt cor nostrum, dicentes: Maxima multitudo est, et nobis statura procerior; urbes magnæ, et ad cælum usque munitæ: filios Enacim vidimus ibi. |
Whidur schulen we stie? the messangeris maden aferd oure herte, and seiden, A grettiste multitude is, and largere in stature than we; the citees ben greete, and wallid til to the heuene; we sien there the sones of Enachym, that is, giauntis. |
Whither shall we go up? the messengers have terrified our hearts, saying: The multitude is very great, and taller than we: the cities are great, and walled up td the sky, we have seen the sons of the Enacims there. | |

And Y seide to you, Nyle ye drede with ynne, nether drede withoutforth; the Lord God hym silf, |
And I said to you: Fear not, neither be ye afraid of them: | |
| 30 | Dominus Deus, qui ductor est vester, pro vobis ipse pugnabit, sicut fecit in Ægypto cunctis videntibus. |
which is youre ledere, schal fiyte for you, as he dide in Egipt, while alle men sien. |
The Lord God, who is your leader, himself will fight for you, as he did in Egypt in the sight of all. | |
| 31 | Et in solitudine (ipse vidisti) portavit te Dominus Deus tuus, ut solet homo gestare parvulum filium suum, in omni via per quam ambulastis, donec veniretis ad locum istum. |
And ye sien in the wildirnesse, thi Lord God bar thee, as a man is wont to bere his litil sone, in al the weie bi which ye yeden til ye camen to this place. |
And in the wilderness (as thou hast seen) the Lord thy God hath carried thee, as a man is wont to carry his little son, all the way that you have come, until you came to this place. | |

And sotheli nether so ye bileueden to youre Lord God, that yede bifor you in the weie, |
And yet for all this you did not believe the Lord your God, | |
| 33 | qui præcessit vos in via, et metatus est locum in quo tentoria figere deberetis, nocte ostendens vobis iter per ignem, et die per columnam nubis. |
and mesuride the place in which ye ouyten to sette tentis, and schewide in nyyt the weie to you bi fier, and in dai bi a piler of cloude. |
Who went before you in the way, and marked out the place, wherein you should pitch your tents, in the night shewing you the way by fire, and in the day by the pillar of a cloud. | |
| 34 | Cumque audisset Dominus vocem sermonum vestrorum, iratus juravit, et ait: |
And whanne the Lord hadde herd the vois of youre wordis, he was wrooth, |

| 35 | Non videbit quispiam de hominibus generationis hujus pessimæ terram bonam, quam sub juramento pollicitus sum patribus vestris, |
and swoor, and seide, Noon of the men of this werste generacioun schal se the good lond, which Y bihiyte vndur an ooth to youre fadris, |
Not one of the men of this wicked generation shall see the good land, which I promised with an oath to your fathers: | |
| 36 | præter Caleb filium Jephone: ipse enim videbit eam, et ipsi dabo terram, quam calcavit, et filiis ejus, quia secutus est Dominum. |
outakun Caleph, the sone of Jephone; for he schal se it, and Y schal yyue to hym the lond on which he trad, and to hise sones, for he suede the Lord. |
Except Caleb the son of Jephone: for he shall see it, and to him I will give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath followed the Lord. | |
| 37 | Nec miranda indignatio in populum, cum mihi quoque iratus Dominus propter vos dixerit: Nec tu ingredieris illuc: |
Nether the indignacioun ayens the puple is wondirful, sithen the Lord was wrooth also to me for you, and seide, |
Neither is his indignation against the people to be wondered at, since the Lord was angry with me also on your account, and said: Neither shalt thou go in thither. | |
| 38 | sed Josue filius Nun minister tuus, ipse intrabit pro te. Hunc exhortare et robora, et ipse sorte terram dividet Israëli. |
Nether thou schalt entre thidur, but Josue, the sone of Nun, thi mynystre, he schal entre for thee; excyte and strengthe thou him, and he schal departe the lond bi lot to Israel. |
But Josue the son of Nun, thy minister, he shall go in for thee: exhort and encourage him, and he shall divide the land by lot to Israel. | |
| 39 | Parvuli vestri, de quibus dixistis quod captivi ducerentur, et filii qui hodie boni ac mali ignorant distantiam, ipsi ingredientur: et ipsis dabo terram, et possidebunt eam. |
Youre litle children, of whiche ye seiden, that thei schulden be led prisoneris, and the sones that kunnen not to dai the diuersite of good and of yuel, thei schulen entre; and Y schal yyue to hem the lond, and thei schulen welde it. |
Your children, of whom you said that they should be led away captives, and your sons who know not this day the difference of good and evil, they shall go in: and to them I will give the land, and they shall possess it. | |

Sotheli turne ye ayen, and go ye in to the wildirnesse, bi the weie of the Reed See. |
But return you and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. | |
| 41 | Et respondistis mihi: Peccavimus Domino: ascendemus et pugnabimus, sicut præcepit Dominus Deus noster. Cumque instructi armis pergeretis in montem, |
And ye answeriden to me, We synneden to the Lord; we schulen stie, and we schulen fiyte, as oure Lord God comaundide. And whanne ye weren arayed with armeris, and yeden into the hil, the Lord seide to me, |

| 42 | ait mihi Dominus: Dic ad eos: Nolite ascendere, neque pugnetis: non enim sum vobiscum: ne cadatis coram inimicis vestris. |
Seie thou to hem, Nyle ye stye, nether fiyte ye, for Y am not with you, lest ye fallen bifor youre enemyes. |
The Lord said to me: Say to them: Go not up, and fight not, for I am not with you: lest you fall before your enemies. | |
| 43 | Locutus sum, et non audistis: sed adversantes imperio Domini, et tumentes superbia, ascendistis in montem. |
Y spak, and ye herden not; but ye weren aduersaries to the comaundement of the Lord, and bolnden with prijde, and stieden in to the hil. |
I spoke, and you hearkened not: but resisting the commandment of the Lord, and swelling with pride, you went up into the mountain. | |
| 44 | Itaque egressus Amorrhæus, qui habitabat in montibus, et obviam veniens, persecutus est vos, sicut solent apes persequi: et cecidit de Seir usque Horma. |
Therfor Ammorrey yede out, that dwellide in the hillis, and he cam ayens you, and pursuede you, as bees ben wont to pursue, and killide fro Seir til Horma. And whanne ye turneden ayen, |
And the Amorrhite that dwelt in the mountains coming out, and meeting you, chased you, as bees do: and made slaughter of you from Seir as far as Horma. | |
| 45 | Cumque reversi ploraretis coram Domino, non audivit vos, nec voci vestræ voluit acquiescere. |
and wepten bifor the Lord, he herde not you, nether wolde asente to youre vois; |
And when you returned and wept before the Lord, he heard you not, neither would he yield to ;your voice. | |
| 46 | Sedistis ergo in Cadesbarne multo tempore. |
therfor ye saten in Cades Barne bi myche tyme. |

| 1 | Profectique inde, venimus in solitudinem, quæ ducit ad mare Rubrum, sicut mihi dixerat Dominus: et circuivimus montem Seir longo tempore. |
And we yeden forth fro thennus, and camen in to the wildirnesse that ledith to the Reed See, as the Lord seide to me; and we cumpassiden the hil of Seir in long tyme. |
And departing from thence we came into the wilderness that leadeth to the Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken to me: and we compassed mount Seir a long time. | |
| 2 | Dixitque Dominus ad me: |
And the Lord seide to me, It sufficith to you to cumpasse this hil; |
And the Lord said to me: | |
| 3 | Sufficit vobis circuire montem istum: ite contra aquilonem: |
go ye ayens the north. |
You have compassed this mountain long enough: go toward the north: | |
| 4 | et populo præcipe, dicens: Transibitis per terminos fratrum vestrorum filiorum Esau, qui habitant in Seir, et timebunt vos. |
And comaunde thou to the puple, and seie, Ye schulen passe bi the termes of youre britheren, the sones of Esau, that dwellen in Seir, and thei schulen drede you. |
And command thou the people, saying: You shall pass by the borders of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and they will be afraid of you. | |
| 5 | Videte ergo diligenter ne moveamini contra eos. Neque enim dabo vobis de terra eorum quantum potest unius pedis calcare vestigium, quia in possessionem Esau dedi montem Seir. |
Therfor se ye diligentli, that ye be not moued ayens hem; for Y schal not yyue to you of the land of hem as myche as the steppe of o foot may trede, for Y yaf the hil of Seir in to the possessioun of Esau. |
Take ye then good heed that you stir not against them. For I will not give you of their land so much as the step of one foot can tread upon, because I have given mount Seir to Esau, for a possession. | |
| 6 | Cibos emetis ab eis pecunia, et comedetis: aquam emptam haurietis, et bibetis. |
Ye schulden bie of hem metis for money, and ye schulen ete; ye schulden drawe, and drynke watir bouyt. |
You shall buy meats of them for money and shall eat: you shall draw waters for money, and shall drink. | |
| 7 | Dominus Deus tuus benedixit tibi in omni opere manuum tuarum: novit iter tuum, quomodo transieris solitudinem hanc magnam, per quadraginta annos habitans tecum Dominus Deus tuus, et nihil tibi defuit. |
Thi Lord God blesside thee in al the werk of thin hondis; he knewe thi weye, hou thou passidist this moste wildirnesse, bi fourti yeer; and thi Lord God dwellide with thee, and no thing failide to thee. |
The Lord thy God hath blessed thee in every work of thy hands: the Lord thy God dwelling with thee, knoweth thy journey, how thou hast passed through this great wilderness, for forty years, and thou hast wanted nothing. | |
| 8 | Cumque transissemus fratres nostros filios Esau, qui habitabant in Seir, per viam campestrem de Elath, et de Asiongaber, venimus ad iter quod ducit in desertum Moab. |
And whanne we hadden passid bi oure britheren, the sones of Esau, that dwelliden in Seir, bi the weie of the feeld of Elath, and of Asiongaber, we camen to the weie that ledith in to deseert of Moab. |
And when we had passed by our brethren the children of Esau, that dwelt in Seir, by the way of the plain from Elath and from Asiongaber, we came to the way that leadeth to the desert of Moab. | |
| 9 | Dixitque Dominus ad me: Non pugnes contra Moabitas, nec ineas adversus eos prælium: non enim dabo tibi quidquam de terra eorum, quia filiis Loth tradidi Ar in possessionem. |
And the Lord seide to me, Fiyte thou not ayens Moabitis, nether bigyn thou batel ayens hem, for Y schal not yyue to thee ony thing of the lond of hem, for Y yaf Ar in to possessioun to the sones of Loth. |
And the Lord said to me: Fight not against the Moabites, neither go to battle against them: for I will not give thee any of their land, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot in possession. | |
| 10 | Emim primi fuerunt habitatores ejus, populus magnus, et validus, et tam excelsus ut de Enacim stirpe, |
Emyn, that is, griseful men, weren first dwelleris therof, a greet puple, and strong, and so hiy, that thei weren bileued as giantis, |
The Emims first were the inhabitants thereof, a people great, and strong, and so tall, that like the race of the Enacims, | |
| 11 | quasi gigantes crederentur, et essent similes filiorum Enacim. Denique Moabitæ appellant eos Emim. |
of the generacioun of Enachym, and thei weren lijk the sones of Enachym; forsothe Moabitis clepen hem Emyn. |
They were esteemed as giants, and were like the sons of the Enacims. But the Moabites call them Emims. | |
| 12 | In Seir autem prius habitaverunt Horrhæi: quibus expulsis atque deletis, habitaverunt filii Esau, sicut fecit Israël in terra possessionis suæ, quam dedit illi Dominus. |
Forsothe Horreis dwelliden bifore in Seir, and whanne thei weren put out, and weren doon awey, the sones of Esau dwelliden there, as Israel dide in the lond of his possessioun, which the Lord yaf to hym. |
The Horrhites also formerly dwelt in Seir: who being driven out and destroyed, the children of Esau dwelt there, as Israel did in the land of his possession, which the Lord gave him. | |
| 13 | Surgentes ergo ut transiremus torrentem Zared, venimus ad eum. |
Therfor we riseden, that we schulden passe the stronde of Zared, and camen to it. |
Then rising up to pass the torrent Zared, we came to it. | |
| 14 | Tempus autem, quo ambulavimus de Cadesbarne usque ad transitum torrentis Zared, triginta et octo annorum fuit: donec consumeretur omnis generatio hominum bellatorum de castris, sicut juraverat Dominus: |
Sotheli the tyme in whiche we yeden fro Cades Barne til to the passynge of the stronde of Zared, was of eiyte and thretti yeer, til al the generacioun of men fiyteris was wastid fro the castels, as the Lord hadde swore; whos hond was ayens hem, |
And the time that we journeyed from Cadesbarne till we passed over the torrent Zared, was thirty-eight years: until all the generation of the men that were fit for war was consumed out of the camp, as the Lord had sworn: | |
| 15 | cujus manus fuit adversum eos, ut interirent de castrorum medio. |
that thei schulden perische fro the myddis of the castels. |
For his hand was against them, that they should perish from the midst of the camp. | |
| 16 | Postquam autem universi ceciderunt pugnatores, |

Thou schalt passe to dai the termes of Moab, |
Thou shalt pass this day the borders of Moab, the city named Ar: | |
| 19 | et accedens in vicina filiorum Ammon, cave ne pugnes contra eos, nec movearis ad prælium: non enim dabo tibi de terra filiorum Ammon, quia filiis Loth dedi eam in possessionem. |
the cytee, Ar bi name, and thou schalt neiy in the nyy coost of the sones of Amon; be thou war that thou fiyte not ayens hem, nether be moued to batel; for Y schal not yyue to thee of the lond of the sones of Amon, for Y yaf it to the sones of Loth in to possessioun. |
And when thou comest nigh the frontiers of the children of Ammon, take heed thou fight not against them, nor once move to battle: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession. | |
| 20 | Terra gigantum reputata est: et in ipsa olim habitaverunt gigantes, quos Ammonitæ vocant Zomzommim, |
It is arettid the lond of giauntis, and giauntis enhabitiden therynne sumtyme, whiche giauntis Amonytis clepen Zonym; |
It was accounted a land of giants: and giants formerly dwelt in it, whom the Ammonites call Zomzommims, | |
| 21 | populus magnus, et multus, et proceræ longitudinis, sicut Enacim, quos delevit Dominus a facie eorum: et fecit illos habitare pro eis, |
a myche puple and greet, and of noble lengthe, as Enachym, whiche the Lord dide awey fro the face of hem, |
A people great and many, and of tall stature, like the Enacims whom the Lord destroyed before their face: and he made them to dwell in their stead, | |
| 22 | sicut fecerat filiis Esau, qui habitant in Seir, delens Horrhæos, et terram eorum illis tradens, quam possident usque in præsens. |
and made hem to dwelle for tho giauntis, as he dide to the sones of Esau, that dwellen in Seire, and dide awai Horreis, and yaf to hem the lond of Horreis, which the sones of Esau welden til in to present tyme. |
As he had done in favour of the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, destroying the Horrhites, and delivering their land to them, which they possess to this day. | |

Also men of CAPadocie puttiden out Eueys, that dwelliden in Asseryn, til to Gaza; which yeden out fro CAPadocie, and diden awey Eueis, and dwelliden for hem. |
The Hevites also, that dwelt in Haserim as far as Gaza, were expelled by the Cappadocians: who came out of Cappadocia, and destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead. | |
| 24 | Surgite, et transite torrentem Arnon: ecce tradidi in manu tua Sehon regem Hesebon Amorrhæum, et terram ejus incipe possidere, et committe adversus eum prælium. |
Rise ye, and passe ye the stronde of Arnon; lo! Y haue bitake in thin hond Seon, king of Esebon, of Amorreis; and his lond bigynne thou to welde, and smyte thou batel ayens him. |
Arise ye, and pass the torrent Arnon: Behold I have delivered into thy hand Sehon king of Hesebon the Amorrhite, and begin thou to possess his land and make war against him. | |
| 25 | Hodie incipiam mittere terrorem atque formidinem tuam in populos, qui habitant sub omni cælo: ut audito nomine tuo paveant, et in morem parturientium contremiscant, et dolore teneantur. |
To dai Y schal bigynne to sende thi drede and strengthe in to puplis that dwellen vndir al heuene, that whanne thi name is herd, thei drede, and tremble bi the maner of wymmen trauelynge of child, and be holdun with sorewe. |
This day will I begin to send the dread and fear of thee upon the nations that dwell under the whole heaven: that when they hear thy name they may fear and tremble, and be in pain like women in travail. | |

Therfor Y sente messangeris fro the wildirnesse of Cademoch to Seon, kyng of Esebon; and Y seide with pesible wordis, |
So I sent messengers from the wilderness of Cademoth to Sehon the king of Hesebon with peaceable words, saying: | Victory over the Amorites: Sihon. Dt.2.26-37 | Nu.21.21-30 |

We will pass through thy land, we will go along by the highway: we will not turn aside neither to the right hand nor to the left. | |
| 28 | Alimenta pretio vende nobis, ut vescamur: aquam pecunia tribue, et sic bibemus. Tantum est ut nobis concedas transitum, |
Sille thow metis to vs for prijs, that we ete; yif thow watir for money, and so we schulen drynke. Oneli it is that thou graunte passage to vs, |
Sell us meat for money, that we may eat: give us water for money and so we will drink. We only ask that thou wilt let us pass through, | |
| 29 | sicut fecerunt filii Esau, qui habitant in Seir, et Moabitæ, qui morantur in Ar: donec veniamus ad Jordanem, et transeamus ad terram, quam Dominus Deus noster daturus est nobis. |
as the sones of Esau diden, that dwellen in Seir, and as Moabitis diden, that dwellen in Ar, til we comen to Jordan, and passen to the lond which oure Lord God schal yyue to vs. |
As the children of Esau have done, that dwell in Seir, and the Moabites, that abide in Ar: until we come to the Jordan, and pass to the land which the Lord our God will give us. | |
| 30 | Noluitque Sehon rex Hesebon dare nobis transitum: quia induraverat Dominus Deus tuus spiritum ejus, et obfirmaverat cor illius, ut traderetur in manus tuas, sicut nunc vides. |
And Seon, kyng of Esebon, nolde yyue passage to vs; for thi Lord God made hard his spirit, and made sad in yuel the herte of hym, that he schulde be bitakun in to thin hondis, as thou seest now. |
And Sehon the king of Hesebon would not let us pass: because the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and fixed his heart, that he might be delivered into thy hands, as now thou seest. | |
| 31 | Dixitque Dominus ad me: Ecce cœpi tibi tradere Sehon, et terram ejus: incipe possidere eam. |
And the Lord seide to me, Lo, Y bigan to bitake to thee Seon, and his lond; bigynne thou to welde it. |
And the Lord said to me: Behold I have begun to deliver unto thee Sehon and his land, begin to possess it. | |
| 32 | Egressusque est Sehon obviam nobis cum omni populo suo ad prælium in Jasa. |
And Seon yede out ayens vs with al his puple to batel in Jasa. |
And Sehon came out to meet us with all his people to fight at Jasa. | |
| 33 | Et tradidit eum Dominus Deus noster nobis: percussimusque eum cum filiis suis et omni populo suo. |
And oure Lord God bitook hym to vs, and we han smyte hym with hise sones, and al his puple. |
And the Lord our God delivered him to us: and we slew him with his sons and all his people. | |
| 34 | Cunctasque urbes in tempore illo cepimus, interfectis habitatoribus earum, viris ac mulieribus et parvulis: non reliquimus in eis quidquam, |
And we token in that tyme alle the citees, whanne the dwelleris of tho citees, men, and wymmen, and children weren slayn; we leften not in hem ony thing, |
And we took all his cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men and women and children. We left nothing of them: | |
| 35 | absque jumentis, quæ in partem venere prædantium: et spoliis urbium, quas cepimus |

Except the cattle which came to the share of them that took them: and the spoils of the cities, which we took: | |
| 36 | ab Aroër, quæ est super ripam torrentis Arnon, oppido quod in valle situm est, usque Galaad. Non fuit vicus et civitas, quæ nostras effugeret manus: omnes tradidit Dominus Deus noster nobis, |
Fro Aroer, which is on the brenke of the stronde of Arnon, fro the toun which is set in the valey, til to Galaad, no town was ether citee, that ascapide oure hondis. |
From Aroer, which is upon the bank of the torrent Amen, a town that is situate in a valley, as far as Galaad. There was not a village or city, that escaped our hands: the Lord our God delivered all unto us: | |
| 37 | absque terra filiorum Ammon, ad quam non accessimus: et cunctis quæ adjacent torrenti Jeboc, et urbibus montanis, universisque locis, a quibus nos prohibuit Dominus Deus noster. |
Oure Lord God bitook alle to vs; outakun the lond of the sones of Amon, to which lond we neiyiden not, and outakun alle thingis that liggen to the stronde of Jeboth, and outakun the citees of the munteyns, and alle places fro whiche oure Lord God forbeed vs. |
Except the land of the children of Ammon, to which we approached not: and all that border upon the torrent Jeboc, and the cities in the mountains, and all the places which the Lord our God forbade us. | |

And so we turneden, and stieden bi the weie of Basan; and Og, the kyng of Basan, yede out ayens vs with his puple, to fiyte in Edrai. |

And the Lord seide to me, Drede thou not hym, for he is bitakun in thin hond, with al his puple, and his lond; and thou schalt do to hym, as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis, that dwellide in Esebon. |
And the Lord said to me: Fear him not: because he is delivered into thy hand, with all his people and his land: and thou shalt do to him as thou hast done to Sehon king of the Amorrhites, that dwelt in Hesebon. | |
| 3 | Tradidit ergo Dominus Deus noster in manibus nostris etiam Og regem Basan, et universum populum ejus: percussimusque eos usque ad internecionem, |
Therfor oure Lord God bitook in oure hondis also Og, kyng of Basan, and al his puple; and we han smyte hym til to deeth, |
So the Lord our God delivered into our hands, Og also the king of Basan, and all his people: and we utterly destroyed them, | |
| 4 | vastantes cunctas civitates illius uno tempore. Non fuit oppidum, quod nos effugeret: sexaginta urbes, omnem regionem Argob regni Og in Basan. |
and wastiden alle the citees of him in o tyme; no town was that ascapide vs; we destrieden sixti citees, al the cuntrei of Argob, of the rewme of Og in Basan. |
Wasting all his cities at one time, there was not a town that escaped us: sixty cities, all the country of Argob the kingdom of Og in Basan. | |
| 5 | Cunctæ urbes erant munitæ muris altissimis, portisque et vectibus, absque oppidis innumeris, quæ non habebant muros. |
Alle the citees weren strengthid with hiyest wallis, and with yatis and barris; with out townes vnnoumbrable, that hadden not wallis. |
All the cities were fenced with very high walls, and with gates and bars, be- sides innumerable towns that had no walls. | |
| 6 | Et delevimus eos, sicut feceramus Sehon regi Hesebon, disperdentes omnem civitatem, virosque ac mulieres et parvulos: |
And we diden awey thilke men, as we diden to Seon, kyng of Esebon; and we losten ech citee, and men, and wymmen, and litle children; |
And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children: | |
| 7 | jumenta autem et spolia urbium diripuimus. |
forsothe we token bi prey beestis, and the spuylis of citees. |
But the cattle and the spoils of the cities we took for our prey. | |
| 8 | Tulimusque illo in tempore terram de manu duorum regum Amorrhæorum, qui erant trans Jordanem: a torrente Arnon usque ad montem Hernon, |
And we token in that tyme the lond fro the hond of twey kyngis of Ammorreis, that weren biyonde Jordan, fro the stronde of Arnon til to the hil of Hermon, |
And we took at that time the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorrhites, that were beyond the Jordan: from the torrent Amen unto the mount Hermon, | |
| 9 | quem Sidonii Sarion vocant, et Amorrhæi Sanir: |
which hil Sidonyes clepen Sarion, and Ammorreis clepen Sanyr. |
Which the Sidonians call Sarion, and the Amorrhites Sanir: | |
| 10 | omnes civitates, quæ sitæ sunt in planitie, et universam terram Galaad et Basan usque ad Selcha, et Edrai civitates regni Og in Basan. |
We tooken alle the citees that weren set in the pleyn, and al the lond of Galaad, and of Basan, til to Selcha and Edray, citees of the rewme of Og, in Basan. |
All the cities that are situate in the plain, and all the land of Galaad and Basan as far as Selcha and Edrai, cities of the kingdom of Og in Basan. | |
| 11 | Solus quippe Og rex Basan restiterat de stirpe gigantum. Monstratur lectus ejus ferreus, qui est in Rabbath filiorum Ammon, novem cubitos habens longitudinis, et quatuor latitudinis ad mensuram cubiti virilis manus. |
For Og aloone, kyng of Basan, was left of the generacioun of giauntis; and his yrun bed is schewid, which is in Rabath, of the sones of Amon, and hath nyne cubitis of lengthe, and foure cubitis of breede, at the mesure of a cubit of mannus hond. |
For only Og king of Basan remained of the race of the giants. His bed of iron is shewn, which is in Rabbath of the children of Ammon, being nine cubits long, and four broad after the measure of the cubit of a man's hand. | |
