2 | ΠΑΡΟΙΜΙΑΙ | Brenton(Lxx) | PROVERBS | Revised Standard Version | LIBER PROVERBIORUM SALOMONIS | 2 |
[My] son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with you; | The rewards of Wisdom. Pr.2.1-22 | My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, | בְּנִי אִם־תִּקַּח אֲמָרָי וּמִצְוֹתַי תִּצְפֹּן אִתָּךְ׃ | 1 |
your ear shall listen to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son. | making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; | לְהַקְשִׁיב לַחָכְמָה אָזְנֶךָ תַּטֶּה לִבְּךָ לַתְּבוּנָה׃ | 2
For it you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding; | yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, | כִּי אִם לַבִּינָה תִקְרָא לַתְּבוּנָה תִּתֵּן קֹולֶךָ׃ | 3
and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures; | if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures; | אִם־תְּבַקְשֶׁנָּה כַכָּסֶף וְכַמַּטְמֹונִים תַּחְפְּשֶׂנָּה׃ | 4
then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. | then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence [come] knowledge and understanding, | For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; | כִּי־יְהוָה יִתֵּן חָכְמָה מִפִּיו דַּעַת וּתְבוּנָה׃ | 6
and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way; | he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, | {כ= וְצָפַן} {ק= יִצְפֹּן} לַיְשָׁרִים תּוּשִׁיָּה מָגֵן לְהֹלְכֵי תֹם׃ | 7
that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him. | guarding the paths of justice and preserving the way of his saints.
Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgement; and shall direct all your course aright. | Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; | אָז תָּבִין צֶדֶק וּמִשְׁפָּט וּמֵישָׁרִים כָּל־מַעְגַּל־טֹוב׃ | 9
For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul, | for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; | כִּי־תָבֹוא חָכְמָה בְלִבֶּךָ וְדַעַת לְנַפְשְׁךָ יִנְעָם׃ | 10
good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you; | discretion will watch over you; understanding will guard you; | מְזִמָּה תִּשְׁמֹר עָלֶיךָ תְּבוּנָה תִנְצְרֶכָּה׃ | 11
to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully. | delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, | לְהַצִּילְךָ מִדֶּרֶךְ רָע מֵאִישׁ מְדַבֵּר תַּהְפֻּכֹות׃ | 12
Alas [for those] who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness; | who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, | הַעֹזְבִים אָרְחֹות יֹשֶׁר לָלֶכֶת בְּדַרְכֵי־חֹשֶׁךְ׃ | 13
who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness; | who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil; | הַשְּׂמֵחִים לַעֲשֹׂות רָע יָגִילוּ בְּתַהְפֻּכֹות רָע׃ | 14
whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding; | men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.
to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. [My] son, let not evil counsel overtake you, | You will be saved from the loose woman, from the adventuress with her smooth words, | לְהַצִּילְךָ מֵאִשָּׁה זָרָה מִנָּכְרִיָּה אֲמָרֶיהָ הֶחֱלִיקָה׃ | 16
[of her] who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God. | who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God; | הַעֹזֶבֶת אַלּוּף נְעוּרֶיהָ וְאֶת־בְּרִית אֱלֹהֶיהָ שָׁכֵחָה׃ | 17
For she has fixed her house near death, and [guided] her wheels near Hades with the giants. | for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the shades; | כִּי שָׁחָה אֶל־מָוֶת בֵּיתָהּ וְאֶל־רְפָאִים מַעְגְּלֹתֶיהָ׃ | 18
None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life. | none who go to her come back nor do they regain the paths of life.
For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy. | So you will walk in the way of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous.
For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it. | For the upright will inhabit the land, and men of integrity will remain in it; | כִּי־יְשָׁרִים יִשְׁכְּנוּ־אָרֶץ וּתְמִימִים יִוָּתְרוּ בָהּ׃ | 21
The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it. | but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.
