4ΠΑΡΟΙΜΙΑΙBrenton(Lxx)PROVERBS Revised Standard VersionLIBER PROVERBIORUM SALOMONIS 4

Hear, you children, the instruction of a father,
and attend to know understanding.
The benefits of wisdom. Pr.4.1-27Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive,
that you may gain insight;
For I give you a good gift;
forsake you not my law.
 for I give you good precepts:
do not forsake my teaching.
For I also was a son obedient to [my] father,
and loved in the sight of [my] mother:
 When I was a son with my father, tender,
the only one in the sight of my mother,
who spoke and instructed me, [saying],
Let our speech be fixed in your heart,
keep [our] commandments, forget them not:
 he taught me, and said to me,
"Let your heart hold fast my words;
keep my commandments, and live;
and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.
 do not forget,
and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
Get wisdom;
get insight.
And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to you:
love it, and it shall keep you.
 Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
love her, and she will guard you.
Secure it, and it shall exalt you:
honour it, that it may embrace you;
 Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;
she will honor you if you embrace her.
that it may give to your head a crown of graces,
and may cover you with a crown of delight.
 She will place on your head a fair garland;
she will bestow on you a beautiful crown."
Her, [my] son, and receive my words;
and the years of your life shall be increased,
that the resources of your life may be many.
 Hear, my son, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many.
For I teach you the ways of wisdom;
and I cause you to go in right paths.
 I have taught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
For when you go, your steps shall not be straitened;
and when you run, you shall not be distressed.
 When you walk, your step will not be hampered;
and if you run, you will not stumble.
Take hold of my instruction; let it not go,
- but keep it for yourself for your life.
 Keep hold of instruction, do not let go;
guard her, for she is your life.
Go not in the ways of the ungodly,
neither covet the ways of transgressors.
 Do not enter the path of the wicked,
and do not walk in the way of evil men.
In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not thither;
but turn from them, and pass away.
 Avoid it; do not go on it;
turn away from it and pass on.
For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil:
their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.
 For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;
they are robbed of sleep unless they have made some one stumble.
For these live upon the bread of ungodliness,
and are drunken with wine of transgression.
 For they eat the bread of wickedness
and drink the wine of violence.
But the ways of the righteous shine like light;
they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.
 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
But the ways of the ungodly are dark;
they know not how they stumble.
 The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know over what they stumble.
[My] son, attend to my speech;
and apply your ear to my words:
 My son, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
that your fountains may not fail you;
keep them in [thine] heart.
 Let them not escape from your sight;
keep them within your heart.
For they are life to those that find them,
and health to all [their] flesh.
 For they are life to him who finds them,
and healing to all his flesh.
Keep your heart with the utmost care;
for out of these are the issues of life.
 Keep your heart with all vigilance;
for from it flow the springs of life.
Remove from you a froward mouth,
and put far away from you unjust lips.
 Put away from you crooked speech,
and put devious talk far from you.
Let your eyes look right on,
and let your eyelids assent [to] just [things].
 Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Make straight paths for your feet,
and order your ways aright.
 Take heed to the path of your feet,
then all your ways will be sure.
Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left,
but turn away your foot from an evil way:
 Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil.
for God knows the ways on the right hand,
but those on the left are crooked:

and he will make your ways straight,
and will guide your steps in peace.

Notes: Format: For the canonical books the parallel passages on this page are seven columns width, reducing to four columns for the Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books.
Printing: For the most readable option, set your printer to a Landscape setting before printing the page.
The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text.)
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).
I made constant use of my own copies of Swete's Lxx in preparation of the Greek text. Swete's Lxx can be viewed HERE, HERE, and HERE. Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)
Hebrew Bible has been adapted from the BHS in Word format at Tyndale.
The Septuagint in English (translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT,
but use this as the English Text for the remainder of the LXX (Apocrypha - deuterocanonical books).
The katapi New Study Bible reference section: displays links to parallel passages.
Passage headings are generally as printed in the Bible Society's "Good News Bible", 1976.
