Be enlightened be enlightened O Jerusalem for your light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.The future glory of Jerusalem. Is.60.1-22Arise, shine; for your light has come,

Behold darkness shall cover the earth and [there shall be] gross darkness on the nations: but the Lords shall appear upon you and his glory shall be seen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the LORD will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.
And kings shall walk in your light and nations in your brightness. And nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4ἆρον κύκλῳ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου καὶ ἰδὲ συνηγμένα τὰ τέκνα σου· ἰδοὺ ἥκασιν πάντες οἱ υἱοί σου μακρόθεν, καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες σου ἐπ' ὤμων ἀρθήσονται. Lift up your eyes round about and behold your children gathered: all your sons have come from far and your daughters shall be borne on [men's] shoulders. Lift up your eyes round about, and see;
they all gather together, they come to you;
your sons shall come from far,
and your daughters shall be carried in the arms.
καὶ ἥξουσίν σοι Then shall you see and fear and be amazed in your heart; for the wealth of the sea shall come round to you and of nations and peoples; and herds of camels shall come to you Then you shall see and be radiant,
your heart shall thrill and rejoice; [Heb: be enlarged]
because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
5
6ἀγέλαι καμήλων, καὶ καλύψουσίν σε κάμηλοι Μαδιαμ καὶ Γαιφα· πάντες ἐκ Σαβα ἥξουσιν φέροντες χρυσίον καὶ λίβανον οἴσουσιν καὶ τὸ σωτήριον κυρίου εὐαγγελιοῦνται. and the camels of Madiam and Gaepha shall cover you: all from Saba shall come bearing gold and shall bring frankincense and they shall publish the salvation of the Lord. A multitude of camels shall cover you,
the young camels of Mid'ian and Ephah;
all those from Sheba shall come.
They shall bring gold and frankincense,
and shall proclaim the praise of the LORD.
And all the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered and the rams of Nabaeoth shall come; and acceptable sacrifices shall be offered on my altar and my house of prayer shall be glorified. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you,
the rams of Nebai'oth shall minister to you;
they shall come up with acceptance on my altar,
and I will glorify my glorious house.
7
8τίνες οἵδε ὡς νεφέλαι πέτανται καὶ ὡς περιστεραὶ σὺν νεοσσοῖς; Who are these [that] fly as clouds and as doves with young ones to me? Who are these that fly like a cloud,
and like doves to their windows?
The isles have waited for me and the ships of Tharsis among the first to bring your children from afar and their silver and their gold with them and [that] for the sake of the holy name of the Lord For the coastlands shall wait for me,
the ships of Tarshish first,
to bring your sons from far,
their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the LORD your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel,
because he has glorified you.
And strangers shall build your walls and their kings shall wait upon you: for by reason of my wrath I smote you and by reason of mercy I loved you. Foreigners shall build up your walls,
and their kings shall minister to you;
for in my wrath I smote you,
but in my favor I have had mercy on you.
10
11καὶ ἀνοιχθήσονται αἱ πύλαι σου διὰ παντός, ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτὸς οὐ κλεισθήσονται, εἰσαγαγεῖν πρὸς σὲ δύναμιν ἐθνῶν καὶ βασιλεῖς ἀγομένους. And your gates shall be opened continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; to bring in to you the power of the Gentiles and their kings as captives. Your gates shall be open continually;
day and night they shall not be shut;
that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
with their kings led in procession.
For the nations and the kings which will not serve you shall perish; and those nations shall be made utterly desolate. For the nation and kingdom that
will not serve you shall perish;
those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
And the glory of Libanus shall come to you with the cypress and pine and cedar together to glorify my holy place. The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
the cypress, the plane, and the pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary;
and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
And the sons of them that afflicted you and of them that provoked you shall come to you in fear; and you shall be called Sion the city of the Holy One of Israel. The sons of those who oppressed you
shall come bending low to you;
and all who despised you
shall bow down at your feet;
they shall call you the City of the LORD,
the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
Because you has become desolate and hated and there was no helper therefore I will make you a perpetual gladness a joy of many generations. Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you majestic for ever,
a joy from age to age.
And you shall suck the milk of the Gentiles and shall eat the wealth of kings: and shall know that I am the Lord that saves you and delivers you the Holy One of Israel. You shall suck the milk of nations,
you shall suck the breast of kings;
and you shall know that I, the LORD, am your Saviour
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
καὶ δώσω τοὺς ἄρχοντάς σου ἐν εἰρήνῃ καὶ τοὺς ἐπισκόπους σου ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ· And for brass I will bring you gold and for iron I will bring you silver and instead of wood I will bring you brass and instead of stones iron; and I will make your princes peaceable Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze, instead of stones, iron.
I will make your overseers peace
and your taskmasters righteousness.
And injustice shall no more be heard in your land nor destruction nor misery in your coasts; but your walls shall be called Salvation and your gates Sculptured Work. Violence shall no more be heard in your land,
devastation or destruction within your borders;
you shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
And you shall no more have the sun for a light by day nor shall the rising of the moon lighten your night; but the Lord shall be your everlasting light and God your glory. The sun shall be no more your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you by night; [One ancient Ms Gk Old Latin Tg: Heb lacks: by night]
but the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
For the sun shall no more set nor shall the moon be eclipsed; for the Lord shall be your everlasting light and the days of your mourning shall be completed. Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of mourning shall be ended.
20
21καὶ ὁ λαός σου πᾶς δίκαιος, καὶ δι' αἰῶνος κληρονομήσουσιν τὴν γῆν, φυλάσσων τὸ φύτευμα, ἔργα χειρῶν αὐτοῦ εἰς δόξαν. Your people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever preserving that which they have planted [even] the works of their hands for glory. Your people shall all be righteous;
they shall possess the land for ever,
the shoot of my planting,
the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.
The little one shall become thousands and the least a great nation; I the Lord will gather them in [due] time. The least one shall become a clan,
and the smallest one a mighty nation;
I am the LORD;
in its time I will hasten it.

Notes: Format: For the canonical books the parallel passages on this page are seven columns width, reducing to four columns for the Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books.
Printing: For the most readable option, set your printer to a Landscape setting before printing the page.
The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text.)
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).
I made constant use of my own copies of Swete's Lxx in preparation of the Greek text. Swete's Lxx can be viewed HERE, HERE, and HERE. Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)
Hebrew Bible has been adapted from the BHS in Word format at Tyndale.
The Septuagint in English (translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT,
but use this as the English Text for the remainder of the LXX (Apocrypha - deuterocanonical books).
The katapi New Study Bible reference section: displays links to parallel passages.
Passage headings are generally as printed in the Bible Society's "Good News Bible", 1976.
To view the Greek Text on this page, you will need a Unicode font capable of displaying extended Greek characters.
