7ΗΣΑΙΑΣBrenton(Lxx)ISAIAH Revised Standard VersionISAIAS PROPHETA 7

And it came to pass in the days of Achaz [the son] of Joatham, the son of Ozias, king of Juda, there came up Rasim king of Aram, and Phakee son of Romelias, king of Israel, against Jerusalem to war against it, but they could not take it.A message for AHAZ, king of Judah. Is.7.1-9In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzzi'ah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remali'ah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it.
And a message was brought to the house of David, saying, Aram has conspired with Ephraim. And his soul was amazed, and the soul of his people, as in a wood a tree is moved by the wind. When the house of David was told, "Syria is in league with E'phraim," his heart and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.
3καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ησαιαν Ἔξελθε εἰς συνάντησιν Αχαζ σὺ καὶ ὁ καταλειφθεὶς Ιασουβ ὁ υἱός σου πρὸς τὴν κολυμβήθραν τῆς ἄνω ὁδοῦ τοῦ ἀγροῦ τοῦ γναφέως And the Lord said to Esaias, Go forth to meet Achaz, you, and your son Jasub who is left, to the pool of the upper way of the fuller's field. And the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go forth to meet Ahaz, you and She'ar-jash'ub [That is: A remnant shall return] your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field,וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־יְשַׁעְיָהוּ צֵא־נָא לִקְרַאת אָחָז אַתָּה וּשְׁאָר יָשׁוּב בְּנֶךָ אֶל־קְצֵה תְּעָלַת הַבְּרֵכָה הָעֶלְיֹונָה אֶל־מְסִלַּת שְׂדֵה כֹובֵס׃ 3
And you shall say to him, Take care to be quiet, and fear not, neither let your soul be disheartened because of these two smoking firebrands: fr when my fierce anger is over, I will heal again. and say to him, 'Take heed, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remali'ah.
5καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ Αραμ καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ Ρομελιου, ὅτι ἐβουλεύσαντο βουλὴν πονηρὰν περὶ σοῦ λέγοντες And [as for] the son of Aram, and the son of Romelias, forasmuch as they have devised an evil counsel, [saying], Because Syria, with E'phraim and the son of Remali'ah, has devised evil against you, saying,יַעַן כִּי־יָעַץ עָלֶיךָ אֲרָם רָעָה אֶפְרַיִם וּבֶן־רְמַלְיָהוּ לֵאמֹר׃ 5
6Ἀναβησόμεθα εἰς τὴν Ιουδαίαν καὶ συλλαλήσαντες αὐτοῖς ἀποστρέψομεν αὐτοὺς πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ βασιλεύσομεν αὐτῆς τὸν υἱὸν Ταβεηλ, We will go up against Judea, and having conferred with them we will turn them away to our side, and we will make the son of Tabeel king of it; "Let us go up against Judah and terrify it, and let us conquer it for ourselves, and set up the son of Ta'be-el as king in the midst of it,"נַעֲלֶה בִיהוּדָה וּנְקִיצֶנָּה וְנַבְקִעֶנָּה אֵלֵינוּ וְנַמְלִיךְ מֶלֶךְ בְּתֹוכָהּ אֵת בֶּן־טָבְאַל׃ ס 6
7τάδε λέγει κύριος σαβαωθ Οὐ μὴ ἐμμείνῃ ἡ βουλὴ αὕτη οὐδὲ ἔσται· thus says the Lord of hosts, This counsel shall not abide, nor come to pass. thus says the Lord GOD:

It shall not stand,
and it shall not come to pass.

8ἀλλ' ἡ κεφαλὴ Αραμ Δαμασκός, ἀλλ' ἔτι ἑξήκοντα καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν ἐκλείψει ἡ βασιλεία Εφραιμ ἀπὸ λαοῦ, But the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus, Rasim; and yet within sixty and five years the kingdom of Ephraim shall cease from [being] a people. For the head of Syria is Damascus,
and the head of Damascus is Rezin.

(Within sixty-five years E'phraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people.)

8
And the head of Ephraim is Somoron, and the head of Somoron the son of Romelias: but if you believe not, neither will you at all understand. And the head of E'phraim is Sama'ria,
and the head of Sama'ria is the son of Remali'ah.
If you will not believe,
surely you shall not be established.'"

10Καὶ προσέθετο κύριος λαλῆσαι τῷ Αχαζ λέγων And the Lord again spoke to Achaz, saying,The sign of Emmanuel. Is.7.10-25Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,
Ask for yourself a sign of the Lord your God, in the depth or in the height. "Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven."
And Achaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord. But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test."
13καὶ εἶπεν Ἀκούσατε δή, οἶκος Δαυιδ· μὴ μικρὸν ὑμῖν ἀγῶνα παρέχειν ἀνθρώποις; καὶ πῶς κυρίῳ παρέχετε ἀγῶνα; And he said, Hear you now, O house of David; is it a little thing for you to contend with men? and how do you contend against the Lord? And he said, "Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?
14διὰ τοῦτο δώσει κύριος αὐτὸς ὑμῖν σημεῖον· ἰδοὺ ἡ παρθένος ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξει καὶ τέξεται υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εμμανουηλ· Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name Emmanuel. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman [Or: virgin] shall conceive and bear [Or: is with child and shall bear] a son, and shall call his name Imman'u-el [That is: God is with us].
15βούτυρον καὶ μέλι φάγεται· πρὶν ἢ γνῶναι αὐτὸν ἢ προελέσθαι πονηρὰ ἐκλέξεται τὸ ἀγαθόν· Butter and honey shall he eat, before he knows either to prefer evil [or] choose the good. He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.
For before the child shall know good or evil, he refuses evil, to choose the good; and the land shall be forsaken which you are afraid of because of the two kings. For before the child knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land before whose two kings you are in dread will be deserted.
But God shall bring upon you, and upon your people, and upon the house of your father, days which have never come, from the day that Ephraim took away from Juda the king of the Assyrians. The LORD will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that E'phraim departed from Judah - the king of Assyria."

And they all shall enter into the clefts of the land, and into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves, and into every ravine. And they will all come and settle in the steep ravines, and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes, and on all the pastures.

In that day the Lord shall shave with te hired razor of the king of Assyria beyond the river the head, and the hairs of the feet, and will remove the beard. In that day the Lord will shave with a razor which is hired beyond the River - with the king of Assyria - the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also.

And it shall come to pass from their drinking an abundance of milk, [that] every one that is left on the land shall eat butter and honey. and because of the abundance of milk which they give, he will eat curds; for every one that is left in the land will eat curds and honey.

And every mountain shall be certainly ploughed: there shall no fear come thither: for there shall be from [among] the [barren] ground and thorns that whereon cattle shall feed and oxen shall tread. and as for all the hills which used to be hoed with a hoe, you will not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread.

Notes: Format: For the canonical books the parallel passages on this page are seven columns width, reducing to four columns for the Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books.
Printing: For the most readable option, set your printer to a Landscape setting before printing the page.
The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text.)
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).
I made constant use of my own copies of Swete's Lxx in preparation of the Greek text. Swete's Lxx can be viewed HERE, HERE, and HERE. Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)
Hebrew Bible has been adapted from the BHS in Word format at Tyndale.
The Septuagint in English (translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT,
but use this as the English Text for the remainder of the LXX (Apocrypha - deuterocanonical books).
The katapi New Study Bible reference section: displays links to parallel passages.
Passage headings are generally as printed in the Bible Society's "Good News Bible", 1976.
