| 1 | Καὶ νῦν ἡ ἐντολὴ αὕτη πρὸς ὑμᾶς, οἱ ἱερεῖς· | And now, O priests, this commandment is to you. | "And now, O priests, this command is for you. | וְעַתָּה אֲלֵיכֶם הַמִּצְוָה הַזֹּאת הַכֹּהֲנִים׃ | 1 | |
| 2 | ἐὰν μὴ ἀκούσητε, καὶ ἐὰν μὴ θῆσθε εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν τοῦ δοῦναι δόξαν τῷ ὀνόματί μου, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ, καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ ἐφ' ὑμᾶς τὴν κατάραν καὶ ἐπικαταράσομαι τὴν εὐλογίαν ὑμῶν καὶ καταράσομαι αὐτήν· καὶ διασκεδάσω τὴν εὐλογίαν ὑμῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν, ὅτι ὑμεῖς οὐ τίθεσθε εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν. | If you will not listen, and if you will not lay [it] to heart, to give glory to my name, says the Lord Almighty, then I will send forth the curse upon you, and I will bring a curse upon your blessing: yes, I will curse it, and I will scatter your blessing, and it shall not exist among you, because you lay not this to heart. | If you will not listen, if you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; indeed I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart. | אִם־לֹא תִשְׁמְעוּ וְאִם־לֹא תָשִׂימוּ עַל־לֵב לָתֵת כָּבֹוד לִשְׁמִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי בָכֶם אֶת־הַמְּאֵרָה וְאָרֹותִי אֶת־בִּרְכֹותֵיכֶם וְגַם אָרֹותִיהָ כִּי אֵינְכֶם שָׂמִים עַל־לֵב׃ |

| 3 | ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀφορίζω ὑμῖν τὸν ὦμον καὶ σκορπιῶ ἤνυστρον ἐπὶ τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν, ἤνυστρον ἑορτῶν ὑμῶν, καὶ λήμψομαι ὑμᾶς εἰς τὸ αὐτό· | Behold, I turn my back upon you, and I will scatter dung upon your faces, the dung of your feasts, and I will carry you away at the same time. | Behold, I will rebuke your offspring, and spread dung upon your faces, the dung of your offerings, and I will put you out of my presence. | הִנְנִי גֹעֵר לָכֶם אֶת־הַזֶּרַע וְזֵרִיתִי פֶרֶשׁ עַל־פְּנֵיכֶם פֶּרֶשׁ חַגֵּיכֶם וְנָשָׂא אֶתְכֶם אֵלָיו׃ |

| 4 | καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ ἐξαπέσταλκα πρὸς ὑμᾶς τὴν ἐντολὴν ταύτην τοῦ εἶναι τὴν διαθήκην μου πρὸς τοὺς Λευίτας, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ. | And you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant might be with the sons of Levi, says the Lord Almighty. | So shall you know that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi may hold, says the LORD of hosts. | וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי שִׁלַּחְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם אֵת הַמִּצְוָה הַזֹּאת לִהְיֹות בְּרִיתִי אֶת־לֵוִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות׃ |

| 5 | ἡ διαθήκη μου ἦν μετ' αὐτοῦ τῆς ζωῆς καὶ τῆς εἰρήνης, καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτῷ ἐν φόβῳ φοβεῖσθαί με καὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου ὀνόματός μου στέλλεσθαι αὐτόν. | My covenant of life and peace was with him, and I gave [it] him that he might reverently fear me, and that he might be awe-struck at my name. | My covenant with him was a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him, that he might fear; and he feared me, he stood in awe of my name. | בְּרִיתִי הָיְתָה אִתֹּו הַחַיִּים וְהַשָּׁלֹום וָאֶתְּנֵם־לֹו מֹורָא וַיִּירָאֵנִי וּמִפְּנֵי שְׁמִי נִחַת הוּא׃ |

| 6 | νόμος ἀληθείας ἦν ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀδικία οὐχ εὑρέθη ἐν χείλεσιν αὐτοῦ· ἐν εἰρήνῃ κατευθύνων ἐπορεύθη μετ' ἐμοῦ καὶ πολλοὺς ἐπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ ἀδικίας. | The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked before me directing [his way] in peace, and he turned many from unrighteousness. | True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity. | תֹּורַת אֱמֶת הָיְתָה בְּפִיהוּ וְעַוְלָה לֹא־נִמְצָא בִשְׂפָתָיו בְּשָׁלֹום וּבְמִישֹׁור הָלַךְ אִתִּי וְרַבִּים הֵשִׁיב מֵעָוֹן׃ |

| 7 | ὅτι χείλη ἱερέως φυλάξεται γνῶσιν, καὶ νόμον ἐκζητήσουσιν ἐκ στόματος αὐτοῦ, διότι ἄγγελος κυρίου παντοκράτορός ἐστιν. | For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty. | For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. | כִּי־שִׂפְתֵי כֹהֵן יִשְׁמְרוּ־דַעַת וְתֹורָה יְבַקְשׁוּ מִפִּיהוּ כִּי מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה־צְבָאֹות הוּא׃ |

| 8 | ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐξεκλίνατε ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ καὶ πολλοὺς ἠσθενήσατε ἐν νόμῳ, διεφθείρατε τὴν διαθήκην τοῦ Λευι, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ. | But you have turned aside from the way, and caused many to fail in [following] the law: you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord Almighty. | But you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts, | וְאַתֶּם סַרְתֶּם מִן־הַדֶּרֶךְ הִכְשַׁלְתֶּם רַבִּים בַּתֹּורָה שִׁחַתֶּם בְּרִית הַלֵּוִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות׃ |

| 9 | κἀγὼ δέδωκα ὑμᾶς ἐξουδενωμένους καὶ παρειμένους εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, ἀνθ' ὧν ὑμεῖς οὐκ ἐφυλάξασθε τὰς ὁδούς μου, ἀλλὰ ἐλαμβάνετε πρόσωπα ἐν νόμῳ. | And I have made you despised and cast out among all the people, because you have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law. | and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in your instruction." | וְגַם־אֲנִי נָתַתִּי אֶתְכֶם נִבְזִים וּשְׁפָלִים לְכָל־הָעָם כְּפִי אֲשֶׁר אֵינְכֶם שֹׁמְרִים אֶת־דְּרָכַי וְנֹשְׂאִים פָּנִים בַּתֹּורָה׃ ף |

| 10 | Οὐχὶ θεὸς εἷς ἔκτισεν ὑμᾶς; οὐχὶ πατὴρ εἷς πάντων ὑμῶν; τί ὅτι ἐγκατελίπετε ἕκαστος τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ τοῦ βεβηλῶσαι τὴν διαθήκην τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν; | Have you not all one father? Did not one God create you? why have you forsaken every man his brother, to profane the covenant of your fathers? | The people's unfaithfulness. Mal.2.10-16 | Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers? | הֲלֹוא אָב אֶחָד לְכֻלָּנוּ הֲלֹוא אֵל אֶחָד בְּרָאָנוּ מַדּוּעַ נִבְגַּד אִישׁ בְּאָחִיו לְחַלֵּל בְּרִית אֲבֹתֵינוּ׃ |

| 11 | ἐγκατελείφθη Ιουδας, καὶ βδέλυγμα ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ, διότι ἐβεβήλωσεν Ιουδας τὰ ἅγια κυρίου, ἐν οἷς ἠγάπησεν, καὶ ἐπετήδευσεν εἰς θεοὺς ἀλλοτρίους. | Juda has been forsaken, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Juda has profaned the holy things of the Lord, which he delighted in, and has gone after other gods. | Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god. | בָּגְדָה יְהוּדָה וְתֹועֵבָה נֶעֶשְׂתָה בְיִשְׂרָאֵל וּבִירוּשָׁלִָם כִּי חִלֵּל יְהוּדָה קֹדֶשׁ יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר אָהֵב וּבָעַל בַּת־אֵל נֵכָר׃ |

| 12 | ἐξολεθρεύσει κύριος τὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸν ποιοῦντα ταῦτα, ἕως καὶ ταπεινωθῇ ἐκ σκηνωμάτων Ιακωβ καὶ ἐκ προσαγόντων θυσίαν τῷ κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι. | The Lord will utterly destroy the man that does these things, until he be even cast down from out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and from among them that offer sacrifice to the Lord Almighty. | May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob, for the man who does this, any to witness or answer, or to bring an offering to the LORD of hosts! | יַכְרֵת יְהוָה לָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂנָּה עֵר וְעֹנֶה מֵאָהֳלֵי יַעֲקֹב וּמַגִּישׁ מִנְחָה לַיהוָה צְבָאֹות׃ ף |

| 13 | καὶ ταῦτα, ἃ ἐμίσουν, ἐποιεῖτε· ἐκαλύπτετε δάκρυσιν τὸ θυσιαστήριον κυρίου καὶ κλαυθμῷ καὶ στεναγμῷ ἐκ κόπων. ἔτι ἄξιον ἐπιβλέψαι εἰς θυσίαν ἢ λαβεῖν δεκτὸν ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν ὑμῶν; | And these things which I hated, you did: you covered with tears the altar of the Lord, and with weeping and groaning because of troubles: [is it] meet [for me] to have respect to your sacrifice, or to receive [anything] from your hands [as] welcome? | And this again you do. You cover the LORD's altar with tears, with weeping and groaning because he no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor at your hand. | וְזֹאת שֵׁנִית תַּעֲשׂוּ כַּסֹּות דִּמְעָה אֶת־מִזְבַּח יְהוָה בְּכִי וַאֲנָקָה מֵאֵין עֹוד פְּנֹות אֶל־הַמִּנְחָה וְלָקַחַת רָצֹון מִיֶּדְכֶם׃ |
13 | |
| 14 | καὶ εἴπατε Ἕνεκεν τίνος; ὅτι κύριος διεμαρτύρατο ἀνὰ μέσον σοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον γυναικὸς νεότητός σου, ἣν ἐγκατέλιπες, καὶ αὐτὴ κοινωνός σου καὶ γυνὴ διαθήκης σου. | Yet you said, Why? Because the Lord has borne witness between you and the wife of your youth, whom you has forsaken, and [yet] she was your partner, and the wife of your covenant. | You ask, "Why does he not?" Because the LORD was witness to the covenant between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. | וַאֲמַרְתֶּם עַל־מָה עַל כִּי־יְהוָה הֵעִיד בֵּינְךָ וּבֵין אֵשֶׁת נְעוּרֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה בָּגַדְתָּה בָּהּ וְהִיא חֲבֶרְתְּךָ וְאֵשֶׁת בְּרִיתֶךָ׃ |
14 | |
| 15 | καὶ οὐκ ἄλλος ἐποίησεν, καὶ ὑπόλειμμα πνεύματος αὐτοῦ. καὶ εἴπατε Τί ἄλλο ἀλλ' ἢ σπέρμα ζητεῖ ὁ θεός; καὶ φυλάξασθε ἐν τῷ πνεύματι ὑμῶν, καὶ γυναῖκα νεότητός σου μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς· | And did he not do well? and [there was] the residue of his spirit. But you said, What does God seek but a seed? But take you heed to your spirit, and forsake not the wife of your youth. | Has not the one God made and sustained for us the spirit of life? And what does he desire? Godly offspring. So take heed to yourselves, and let none be faithless to the wife of his youth. | וְלֹא־אֶחָד עָשָׂה וּשְׁאָר רוּחַ לֹו וּמָה הָאֶחָד מְבַקֵּשׁ זֶרַע אֱלֹהִים וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּם בְּרוּחֲכֶם וּבְאֵשֶׁת נְעוּרֶיךָ אַל־יִבְגֹּד׃ |
15 | |
| 16 | ἀλλὰ ἐὰν μισήσας ἐξαποστείλῃς, λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Ισραηλ, καὶ καλύψει ἀσέβεια ἐπὶ τὰ ἐνθυμήματά σου, λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ. καὶ φυλάξασθε ἐν τῷ πνεύματι ὑμῶν καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐγκαταλίπητε. | But if you should hate [your wife] and put her away, says the Lord God of Israel, then ungodliness shall cover your thoughts, says the Lord Almighty: therefore take you heed to your spirit, and forsake [them] not, | "For I hate divorce, says the LORD the God of Israel, and covering one's garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So take heed to yourselves and do not be faithless." | כִּי־שָׂנֵא שַׁלַּח אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכִסָּה חָמָס עַל־לְבוּשֹׁו אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּם בְּרוּחֲכֶם וְלֹא תִבְגֹּדוּ׃ ס |

| 17 | Οἱ παροξύνοντες τὸν θεὸν ἐν τοῖς λόγοις ὑμῶν καὶ εἴπατε Ἑν τίνι παρωξύναμεν αὐτόν; ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς Πᾶς ποιῶν πονηρόν, καλὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου, καὶ ἐν αὐτοῖς αὐτὸς εὐδόκησεν· καί Ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς τῆς δικαιοσύνης; | ye that have provoked God with your words. But you said, Wherein have we provoked him? In that you say, Every one that does evil is a pleasing [object] in the sight of the Lord, and he takes pleasure in such; and where is the God of justice? | The day of judgement is near. Mal.2.17-3.5 | You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, "How have we wearied him?" By saying, "Every one who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them." Or by asking, "Where is the God of justice?" | הֹוגַעְתֶּם יְהוָה בְּדִבְרֵיכֶם וַאֲמַרְתֶּם בַּמָּה הֹוגָעְנוּ בֶּאֱמָרְכֶם כָּל־עֹשֵׂה רָע טֹוב בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וּבָהֶם הוּא חָפֵץ אֹו אַיֵּה אֱלֹהֵי הַמִּשְׁפָּט׃ |
