| 1 | O God, the heathen have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. | National Lament over the destruction of Jerusalem. Psalm 79(v78) | אֱלֹהִים בָּאוּ גֹויִם בְּנַחֲלָתֶךָ טִמְּאוּ אֶת־הֵיכַל קָדְשֶׁךָ שָׂמוּ אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִַם לְעִיִּים׃ | |
| 2 | They have given the bodies of your servants to the birds of the air for food, the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth. | נָתְנוּ אֶת־נִבְלַת עֲבָדֶיךָ מַאֲכָל לְעֹוף הַשָּׁמָיִם בְּשַׂר חֲסִידֶיךָ לְחַיְתֹו־אָרֶץ׃ | ||
| 3 | They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them. | שָׁפְכוּ דָםָם כַּמַּיִם סְבִיבֹות יְרוּשָׁלִָם וְאֵין קֹובֵר׃ | ||
| 4 | We have become a taunt to our neighbours, mocked and derided by those round about us. | הָיִינוּ חֶרְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ לַעַג וָקֶלֶס לִסְבִיבֹותֵינוּ׃ | ||
| 5 | How long, O Yahweh? Will you be angry for ever? Will your jealous wrath burn like fire? | עַד־מָה יְהוָה תֶּאֱנַף לָנֶצַח תִּבְעַר כְּמֹו־אֵשׁ קִנְאָתֶךָ׃ | ||
| 6 | Pour out your anger on the nations that do not know you, and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name! | שְׁפֹךְ חֲמָתְךָ אֶל־הַגֹּויִם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יְדָעוּךָ וְעַל מַמְלָכֹות אֲשֶׁר בְּשִׁמְךָ לֹא קָרָאוּ׃ | ||
| 7 | For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation. | כִּי אָכַל אֶת־יַעֲקֹב וְאֶת־נָוֵהוּ הֵשַׁמּוּ׃ | ||
| 8 | Do not remember against us the iniquities of our forefathers; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low. | אַל־תִּזְכָּר־לָנוּ עֲוֹנֹת רִאשֹׁנִים מַהֵר יְקַדְּמוּנוּ רַחֲמֶיךָ כִּי דַלֹּונוּ מְאֹד׃ | ||
| 9 | Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake! | עָזְרֵנוּ אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעֵנוּ עַל־דְּבַר כְּבֹוד־שְׁמֶךָ וְהַצִּילֵנוּ וְכַפֵּר עַל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּ לְמַעַן שְׁמֶךָ׃ | ||
| 10 | Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let the avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants be known among the nations before our eyes! | לָמָּה יֹאמְרוּ הַגֹּויִם אַיֵּה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם יִוָּדַע [כ= בַּגִּיִּים] [ק= בַּגֹּויִם] לְעֵינֵינוּ נִקְמַת דַּם־עֲבָדֶיךָ הַשָּׁפוּךְ׃ | ||
| 11 | Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power preserve those doomed to die! | תָּבֹוא לְפָנֶיךָ אֶנְקַת אָסִיר כְּגֹדֶל זְרֹועֲךָ הֹותֵר בְּנֵי תְמוּתָה׃ | ||
| 12 | Return sevenfold into the bosom of our neighbours the taunts with which they have taunted you, O Yahweh! | וְהָשֵׁב לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ שִׁבְעָתַיִם אֶל־חֵיקָם חֶרְפָּתָם אֲשֶׁר חֵרְפוּךָ אֲדֹנָי׃ | ||
| 13 | Then we your people, the flock of your pasture, will give thanks to you for ever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. | וַאֲנַחְנוּ עַמְּכָ וְצֹאן מַרְעִיתֶךָ נֹודֶה לְּךָ לְעֹולָם לְדֹר וָדֹר נְסַפֵּר תְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃ | ||
