| And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, | The Parable of the Marriage Feast Mt.22.1-14 | Lk.14.15-24 | Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν εἶπεν ἐν παραβολαῖς αὐτοῖς λέγων,
| "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, | Ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ, ὁστις ἐποίησεν γάμους τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ.
| and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come.
| Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.'
| But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, | οἱ δὲ ἀμελήσαντες ἀπῆλθον, ὃς μὲν εἰς τὸν ἰδιον ἀγρόν, ὃς δὲ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐμπορίαν αὐτοῦ·
| while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
| The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
| Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
| Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.'
| And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.
| "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; | εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς θεάσασθαι τοὺς ἀνακειμένους εἶδεν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἐνδεδυμένον ἐνδυμα γάμου·
| and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.
| Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.'
| For many are called, but few are chosen."
| Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.
| And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God truthfully, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men.
| Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" | εἰπὲ οὖν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ· ἐξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον Καίσαρι ἢ οὒ;
| But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? | γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν, Τί με πειράζετε, ὑποκριταί;
| Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a coin.
| And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" | καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, Τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὑτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή;
| They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
| When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away.
| The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question, | The Question about the Resurrection Mt.22.23-33 (Jerusalem) - | Mk.12.18-27 | Lk.20.27-40 | Ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ Σαδδουκαῖοι, λέγοντες μὴ εἶναι ἀνάστασιν, καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν
| saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother must marry the widow, and raise up children for his brother.' | - 'If a man dies, having no children Mt.22.24 | Dt.25.5 | λέγοντες, Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς εἶπεν, Ἐάν τις ἀποθάνῃ μὴ ἔχων τέκνα, ἐπιγαμβρεύσει ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναστήσει σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.
| Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married, and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother.
| So too the second and third, down to the seventh.
| After them all, the woman died.
| In the resurrection, therefore, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her."
| But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God.
| For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
| And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, | περὶ δὲ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῶν νεκρῶν οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑμῖν ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ λέγοντος,
| 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?'He is not God of the dead, but of the living." | - 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Jacob Mt.22.32 | Ex.3.6 | Ex.3.15 | Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεὸς ἀβραὰμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἰσαὰκ καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἰακώβ; οὐκ ἐστιν | θεὸς νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων.|
| And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
| But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. | The Great Commandment Mt.22.34-40 (Jerusalem) - | Mk.12.28-34 | Lk.10.25-28 | Οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες ὅτι ἐφίμωσεν τοὺς Σαδδουκαίους συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό.
| And one of them, | asked him a question, to test him.καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν | πειράζων αὐτόν,||
| "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" | Διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ;
| And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. | - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart Mt.22.37 | Dt.6.5 | Jos.22.5 | ὁ δὲ ἐφη αὐτῷ, Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὁλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου·
| This is the great and first commandment.
| And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. | - You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
| On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."
| Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, | The Question about David's Son Mt.22.41-46 (Jerusalem) - | Mk.12.35-37 | Lk.20.41-44 | Συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς
| saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David."
| He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, | λέγει αὐτοῖς, Πῶς οὖν Δαυὶδ ἐν πνεύματι καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον λέγων,
| 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I put your enemies under your feet?' | - The Lord said to my Lord Mt.22.44 | Ps.110.1 | Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου, Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν σου;
| If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?" | εἰ οὖν Δαυὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον, πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν;
| And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did any one dare to ask him any more questions.
