118 1O give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever!
 		Processional Hymn for the Feast of Tabernacles. Psalm 118(v117)הֹודוּ לַיהוָה כִּי־טֹוב כִּי לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו׃
2Let Israel say,
"His steadfast love endures for ever."
 		 יֹאמַר־נָא יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו׃
3Let the house of Aaron say,
"His steadfast love endures for ever."
 		 יֹאמְרוּ־נָא בֵית־אַהֲרֹן כִּי לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו׃
4Let those who fear Yahweh say,
"His steadfast love endures for ever."
 		 יֹאמְרוּ־נָא יִרְאֵי יְהוָה כִּי לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו׃
5Out of my distress I called on Yahweh;
Yahweh answered me and set me free.
 		 מִן־הַמֵּצַר קָרָאתִי יָּהּ עָנָנִי בַמֶּרְחָב יָהּ׃
6With Yahweh on my side I do not fear.
What can man do to me?
 		 יְהוָה לִי לֹא אִירָא מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂה לִי אָדָם׃
7Yahweh is on my side to help me;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
 		 יְהוָה לִי בְּעֹזְרָי וַאֲנִי אֶרְאֶה בְשֹׂנְאָי׃
8It is better to take refuge in Yahweh
than to put confidence in man.
 		 טֹוב לַחֲסֹות בַּיהוָה מִבְּטֹחַ בָּאָדָם׃
9It is better to take refuge in Yahweh
than to put confidence in princes.
 		 טֹוב לַחֲסֹות בַּיהוָה מִבְּטֹחַ בִּנְדִיבִים׃
10All nations surrounded me;
in the name of Yahweh I cut them off!
 		 כָּל־גֹּויִם סְבָבוּנִי בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה כִּי אֲמִילַם׃
11They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
in the name of Yahweh I cut them off!
 		 סַבּוּנִי גַם־סְבָבוּנִי בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה כִּי אֲמִילַם׃
12They surrounded me like bees, they blazed like a fire of thorns;
in the name of Yahweh I cut them off!
 		 סַבּוּנִי כִדְבֹורִים דֹּעֲכוּ כְּאֵשׁ קֹוצִים בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה כִּי אֲמִילַם׃
13I was pushed hard, so that I was falling,
but Yahweh helped me.
 		 דַּחֹה דְחִיתַנִי לִנְפֹּל וַיהוָה עֲזָרָנִי׃
14Yahweh is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
 		 עָזִּי וְזִמְרָת יָהּ וַיְהִי־לִי לִישׁוּעָה׃
15Hark, glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous:
"The right hand of Yahweh does valiantly,
 		 קֹול רִנָּה וִישׁוּעָה בְּאָהֳלֵי צַדִּיקִים
יְמִין יְהוָה עֹשָׂה חָיִל׃
16the right hand of Yahweh is exalted,
the right hand of Yahweh does valiantly!"
 		 יְמִין יְהוָה רֹומֵמָה יְמִין יְהוָה עֹשָׂה חָיִל׃
17I shall not die, but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of Yahweh.
 		 לֹא אָמוּת כִּי־אֶחְיֶה וַאֲסַפֵּר מַעֲשֵׂי יָהּ׃
18Yahweh has chastened me sorely,
but he has not given me over to death.
 		 יַסֹּר יִסְּרַנִּי יָּהּ וְלַמָּוֶת לֹא נְתָנָנִי׃
19Open to me the gates of righteousness,
that I may enter through them and give thanks to Yahweh.
 		 פִּתְחוּ־לִי שַׁעֲרֵי־צֶדֶק אָבֹא־בָם אֹודֶה יָהּ׃
20This is the gate of Yahweh;
the righteous shall enter through it.
 		 זֶה־הַשַּׁעַר לַיהוָה צַדִּיקִים יָבֹאוּ בֹו׃
21I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
 		 אֹודְךָ כִּי עֲנִיתָנִי וַתְּהִי־לִי לִישׁוּעָה׃
22The stone which the builders rejected
has become the head of the corner.
 אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבֹּונִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה׃
23This is Yahweh's doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
 מֵאֵת יְהוָה הָיְתָה זֹּאת הִיא נִפְלָאת בְּעֵינֵינוּ׃
24This is the day which Yahweh has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
 		 זֶה־הַיֹּום עָשָׂה יְהוָה נָגִילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָה בֹו׃
25Save us, we beseech you, O Yahweh!
O Yahweh, we beseech you, give us success!
 		 אָנָּא יְהוָה הֹושִׁיעָה נָּא אָנָּא יְהוָה הַצְלִיחָה נָּא׃
26Blessed be he who enters in the name of Yahweh!
We bless you from the house of Yahweh.
 		 בָּרוּךְ הַבָּא בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה בֵּרַכְנוּכֶם מִבֵּית יְהוָה׃
27Yahweh is God, and he has given us light.
Bind the festal procession with branches,
up to the horns of the altar!
 		 אֵל יְהוָה וַיָּאֶר לָנוּ
אִסְרוּ־חַג בַּעֲבֹתִים עַד־קַרְנֹות הַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃
28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God, I will extol you.
 		 אֵלִי אַתָּה וְאֹודֶךָּ אֱלֹהַי אֲרֹומְמֶךָּ׃
29O give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures for ever! 		 הֹודוּ לַיהוָה כִּי־טֹוב כִּי לְעֹולָם חַסְדֹּו׃
Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.
The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
