26 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

47While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus   Mt.26.47-56 ( Gethsemane ) | Mk.14.43-50 | Lk.22.47-53 | Jn.18.3-12Καὶ ἐτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα ἦλθεν καὶ μετ' αὐτοῦ ὀχλος πολὺς μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων ἀπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων τοῦ λαοῦ.
48Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him."
49And he came up to Jesus at once and said, "Hail, Master!" And he kissed him.
50Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.
51And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
52Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.
53Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? ἢ δοκεῖς ὅτι οὐ δύναμαι παρακαλέσαι τὸν πατέρα μου, καὶ παραστήσει μοι ἀρτι πλείω δώδεκα λεγιῶνας ἀγγέλων;
54But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?" πῶς οὖν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ ὅτι οὑτως δεῖ γενέσθαὶ;
55At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.
56But all this has taken place, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
