| 9 | καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν Ισαακ καὶ Ισμαηλ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ σπήλαιον τὸ διπλοῦν εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν Εφρων τοῦ Σααρ τοῦ Χετταίου, ὅ ἐστιν ἀπέναντι Μαμβρη, | And Isaac and Ismael his sons buried him in the double cave, in the field of Ephron the son of Saar the Chettite, which is over against Mambre: | Isaac and Ish'mael his sons buried him in the cave of Mach-pe'lah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre, | וַיִּקְבְּרוּ אֹתֹו יִצְחָק וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בָּנָיו אֶל־מְעָרַת הַמַּכְפֵּלָה אֶל־שְׂדֵה עֶפְרֹן בֶּן־צֹחַר הַחִתִּי אֲשֶׁר עַל־פְּנֵי מַמְרֵא׃ | 9 | |
| 10 | τὸν ἀγρὸν καὶ τὸ σπήλαιον, ὃ ἐκτήσατο Αβρααμ παρὰ τῶν υἱῶν Χετ, ἐκεῖ ἔθαψαν Αβρααμ καὶ Σαρραν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ. | [even] the field and the cave which Abraam bought of the sons of Chet; there they buried Abraam and Sarrha his wife. | the field which Abraham purchased from the Hittites. | 12 | Αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ισμαηλ τοῦ υἱοῦ Αβρααμ, ὃν ἔτεκεν Αγαρ ἡ παιδίσκη Σαρρας τῷ Αβρααμ, | And these [are] the generations of Ismael the son of Abraam, whom Agar the Egyptian the hand-maid of Sarrha bore to Abraam. | Generations - Ishmael. The firstborn of Ismael, Nabaioth, and Kedar, and Nabdeel, and Massam, | These are the names of the sons of Ish'mael, named in the order of their birth: Neba'ioth, the first-born of Ish'mael; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, | וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹות בְּנֵי יִשְׁמָעֵאל בִּשְׁמֹתָם לְתֹולְדֹתָם בְּכֹר יִשְׁמָעֵאל נְבָיֹת וְקֵדָר וְאַדְבְּאֵל וּמִבְשָׂם׃ | 13 | |

| 16 | οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισμαηλ καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν ἐν ταῖς σκηναῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἐπαύλεσιν αὐτῶν· δώδεκα ἄρχοντες κατὰ ἔθνη αὐτῶν. | These [are] the sons of Ismael, and these are their names in their tents and in their dwellings, twelve princes according to their nations. | These are the sons of Ish'mael and these are their names, by their villages and by their encampments, twelve princes according to their tribes. | אֵלֶּה הֵם בְּנֵי יִשְׁמָעֵאל וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹתָם בְּחַצְרֵיהֶם וּבְטִירֹתָם שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר נְשִׂיאִם לְאֻמֹּתָם׃ | 16 | |
| 17 | καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔτη τῆς ζωῆς Ισμαηλ· ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἑπτὰ ἔτη· καὶ ἐκλιπὼν ἀπέθανεν καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ. | And these [are] the years of the life of Ismael, a hundred and thirty-seven years; and he failed and died, and was added to his fathers. | (These are the years of the life of Ish'mael, a hundred and thirty-seven years; he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his kindred.) | וְאֵלֶּה שְׁנֵי חַיֵּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל מְאַת שָׁנָה וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וְשֶׁבַע שָׁנִים וַיִּגְוַע וַיָּמָת וַיֵּאָסֶף אֶל־עַמָּיו׃ | 17 | |
| 18 | κατῴκησεν δὲ ἀπὸ Ευιλατ ἕως Σουρ, ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Αἰγύπτου, ἕως ἐλθεῖν πρὸς Ἀσσυρίους· κατὰ πρόσωπον πάντων τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ κατῴκησεν. | And he dwelt from Evilat to Sur, which is opposite Egypt, until one comes to the Assyrians; he dwelt in the presence of all his brethren. | They dwelt from Hav'ilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria; he settled over against all his people. | וַיִּשְׁכְּנוּ מֵחֲוִילָה עַד־שׁוּר אֲשֶׁר עַל־פְּנֵי מִצְרַיִם בֹּאֲכָה אַשּׁוּרָה עַל־פְּנֵי כָל־אֶחָיו נָפָל׃ ף | 18 | |
| 19 | Καὶ αὗται αἱ γενέσεις Ισαακ τοῦ υἱοῦ Αβρααμ· Αβρααμ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ισαακ. | And these [are] the generations of Isaac the son of Abraam. | The birth of Esau and Jacob. Gn.25.19-26 | These are the descendants of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham was the father of Isaac, | וְאֵלֶּה תֹּולְדֹת יִצְחָק בֶּן־אַבְרָהָם אַבְרָהָם הֹולִיד אֶת־יִצְחָק׃ | 19 |
| 20 | ἦν δὲ Ισαακ ἐτῶν τεσσαράκοντα, ὅτε ἔλαβεν τὴν Ρεβεκκαν θυγατέρα Βαθουηλ τοῦ Σύρου ἐκ τῆς Μεσοποταμίας ἀδελφὴν Λαβαν τοῦ Σύρου ἑαυτῷ γυναῖκα. | Abraam begot Isaac. And Isaac was forty years old when he took to wife Rebecca, daughter of Bathuel the Syrian, out of Syrian Mesopotamia, sister of Laban the Syrian. | and Isaac was forty years old when he took to wife Rebekah, the daughter of Bethu'el the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean. | וַיְהִי יִצְחָק בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה בְּקַחְתֹּו אֶת־רִבְקָה בַּת־בְּתוּאֵל הָאֲרַמִּי מִפַּדַּן אֲרָם אֲחֹות לָבָן הָאֲרַמִּי לֹו לְאִשָּׁה׃ | 20 | |
| 21 | ἐδεῖτο δὲ Ισαακ κυρίου περὶ Ρεβεκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι στεῖρα ἦν· ἐπήκουσεν δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ θεός, καὶ ἔλαβεν ἐν γαστρὶ Ρεβεκκα ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ. | And Isaac prayed the Lord concerning Rebecca his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord heard him, and his wife Rebecca conceived in her womb. | And Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. | וַיֶּעְתַּר יִצְחָק לַיהוָה לְנֹכַח אִשְׁתֹּו כִּי עֲקָרָה הִוא וַיֵּעָתֶר לֹו יְהוָה וַתַּהַר רִבְקָה אִשְׁתֹּו׃ | 21 | |
| 22 | ἐσκίρτων δὲ τὰ παιδία ἐν αὐτῇ· εἶπεν δέ Εἰ οὕτως μοι μέλλει γίνεσθαι, ἵνα τί μοι τοῦτο; ἐπορεύθη δὲ πυθέσθαι παρὰ κυρίου, | And the babes leaped within her; and she said, If it will be so with me, why is this to me? And she went to enquire of the Lord. | The children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is thus, why do I live?" So she went to inquire of the LORD. | וַיִּתְרֹצֲצוּ הַבָּנִים בְּקִרְבָּהּ וַתֹּאמֶר אִם־כֵּן לָמָּה זֶּה אָנֹכִי וַתֵּלֶךְ לִדְרֹשׁ אֶת־יְהוָה׃ | 22 | |
| 23 | καὶ εἶπεν κύριος αὐτῇ καὶ δύο λαοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας σου διασταλήσονται· καὶ λαὸς λαοῦ ὑπερέξει, καὶ ὁ μείζων δουλεύσει τῷ ἐλάσσονι. |
And the Lord said to her, There are two nations in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your belly, and one people shall excel the other, and the elder shall serve the younger. | And the LORD said to her, and two peoples, born of you, shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger." | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה לָהּ

| 24 | καὶ ἐπληρώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν, καὶ τῇδε ἦν δίδυμα ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτῆς. | And the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered, and she had twins in her womb. | When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. | וַיִּמְלְאוּ יָמֶיהָ לָלֶדֶת וְהִנֵּה תֹוםִם בְּבִטְנָהּ׃ | 24 | |
| 25 | ἐξῆλθεν δὲ ὁ υἱὸς ὁ πρωτότοκος πυρράκης, ὅλος ὡσεὶ δορὰ δασύς· ἐπωνόμασεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ησαυ. | And the first came out red, hairy all over like a skin; and she called his name Esau. | The first came forth red, all his body like a hairy mantle; so they called his name Esau. | וַיֵּצֵא הָרִאשֹׁון אַדְמֹונִי כֻּלֹּו כְּאַדֶּרֶת שֵׂעָר וַיִּקְרְאוּ שְׁמֹו עֵשָׂו׃ | 25 | |
| 26 | καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐπειλημμένη τῆς πτέρνης Ησαυ· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ιακωβ. Ισαακ δὲ ἦν ἐτῶν ἑξήκοντα, ὅτε ἔτεκεν αὐτοὺς Ρεβεκκα. | And after this came forth his brother, and his hand took hold of the heel of Esau; and she called his name Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when Rebecca bore them. | Afterward his brother came forth, and his hand had taken hold of Esau's heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them. | וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן יָצָא אָחִיו וְיָדֹו אֹחֶזֶת בַּעֲקֵב עֵשָׂו וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמֹו יַעֲקֹב וְיִצְחָק בֶּן־שִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה בְּלֶדֶת אֹתָם׃ | 26 | |
| 27 | Ηὐξήθησαν δὲ οἱ νεανίσκοι, καὶ ἦν Ησαυ ἄνθρωπος εἰδὼς κυνηγεῖν ἄγροικος, Ιακωβ δὲ ἦν ἄνθρωπος ἄπλαστος οἰκῶν οἰκίαν. | And the lads grew, and Esau was a man skilled in hunting, dwelling in the country, and Jacob a simple man, dwelling in a house. | Esau sells his birthright. Gn.25.27-34 | When the boys grew up, Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. | וַיִּגְדְּלוּ הַנְּעָרִים וַיְהִי עֵשָׂו אִישׁ יֹדֵעַ צַיִד אִישׁ שָׂדֶה וְיַעֲקֹב אִישׁ תָּם יֹשֵׁב אֹהָלִים׃ | 27 |
| 28 | ἠγάπησεν δὲ Ισαακ τὸν Ησαυ, ὅτι ἡ θήρα αὐτοῦ βρῶσις αὐτῷ· Ρεβεκκα δὲ ἠγάπα τὸν Ιακωβ. | And Isaac loved Esau, because his venison was his food, but Rebecca loved Jacob. | Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his game; but Rebekah loved Jacob. | וַיֶּאֱהַב יִצְחָק אֶת־עֵשָׂו כִּי־צַיִד בְּפִיו וְרִבְקָה אֹהֶבֶת אֶת־יַעֲקֹב׃ | 28 | |
| 29 | ἥψησεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἕψεμα· ἦλθεν δὲ Ησαυ ἐκ τοῦ πεδίου ἐκλείπων, | And Jacob cooked pottage, and Esau came from the plain, fainting. | Once when Jacob was boiling pottage, Esau came in from the field, and he was famished. | וַיָּזֶד יַעֲקֹב נָזִיד וַיָּבֹא עֵשָׂו מִן־הַשָּׂדֶה וְהוּא עָיֵף׃ | 29 | |
| 30 | καὶ εἶπεν Ησαυ τῷ Ιακωβ Γεῦσόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἑψέματος τοῦ πυρροῦ τούτου, ὅτι ἐκλείπω. διὰ τοῦτο ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εδωμ. | And Esau said to Jacob, Let me taste of that red pottage, because I am fainting; therefore his name was called Edom. | And Esau said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red pottage, for I am famished!" (Therefore his name was called Edom.) | וַיֹּאמֶר עֵשָׂו אֶל־יַעֲקֹב הַלְעִיטֵנִי נָא מִן־הָאָדֹם הָאָדֹם הַזֶּה כִּי עָיֵף אָנֹכִי עַל־כֵּן קָרָא־שְׁמֹו אֱדֹום׃ | 30 | |
| 31 | εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ τῷ Ησαυ Ἀπόδου μοι σήμερον τὰ πρωτοτόκιά σου ἐμοί. | And Jacob said to Esau, Sell me this day your birthright. | Jacob said, "First sell me your birthright." | וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב מִכְרָה כַיֹּום אֶת־בְּכֹרָתְךָ לִי׃ | 31 | |
| 32 | εἶπεν δὲ Ησαυ Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πορεύομαι τελευτᾶν, καὶ ἵνα τί μοι ταῦτα τὰ πρωτοτόκια; | And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die, and for what good does this birthright [belong] to me? | Esau said, "I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?" | וַיֹּאמֶר עֵשָׂו הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי הֹולֵךְ לָמוּת וְלָמָּה־זֶּה לִי בְּכֹרָה׃ | 32 | |
| 33 | καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ιακωβ Ὄμοσόν μοι σήμερον. καὶ ὤμοσεν αὐτῷ· ἀπέδοτο δὲ Ησαυ τὰ πρωτοτόκια τῷ Ιακωβ. | And Jacob said to him, Swear to me this day; and he swore to him; and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob. | Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. | וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב הִשָּׁבְעָה לִּי כַּיֹּומ וַיִּשָּׁבַע לֹו וַיִּמְכֹּר אֶת־בְּכֹרָתֹו לְיַעֲקֹב׃ | 33 | |
| 34 | Ιακωβ δὲ ἔδωκεν τῷ Ησαυ ἄρτον καὶ ἕψεμα φακοῦ, καὶ ἔφαγεν καὶ ἔπιεν καὶ ἀναστὰς ᾤχετο· καὶ ἐφαύλισεν Ησαυ τὰ πρωτοτόκια. | And Jacob gave bread to Esau, and pottage of lentils; and he ate and drank, and he arose and departed; so Esau slighted his birthright. | Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils, and he ate and drank, and rose and went his way.
