37ΓΕΝΕΣΙΣ ΚΟΣΜΟΥBrenton(Lxx)GENESIS Revised Standard VersionLIBER BRESITH ID EST GENESIS 37

And Jacob dwelt in the land where his father sojourned, in the land of Chanaan.JOSEPH and his brothers. Gn.37.1-11Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
And these are the generations of Jacob. And Joseph was seventeen years old, feeding the sheep of his father with his brethren, being young; with the sons of Balla, and with the sons of Zelpha, the wives of his father; and Joseph brought to Israel their father their evil reproach. This is the history of the family of Jacob.

Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers; he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought an ill report of them to their father.

And Jacob loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was to him the son of old age; and he made for him a coat of many colours. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long robe with sleeves.
And his brethren having seen that his father loved him more than all his sons, hated him, and could not speak anything peaceable to him. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.
5Ἑνυπνιασθεὶς δὲ Ιωσηφ ἐνύπνιον ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτὸ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and reported it to his brethren. Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they only hated him the more.
6καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἀκούσατε τοῦ ἐνυπνίου τούτου, οὗ ἐνυπνιάσθην· And he said to them, Hear this dream which I have dreamed. He said to them, "Hear this dream which I have dreamed:וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם שִׁמְעוּ־נָא הַחֲלֹום הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר חָלָמְתִּי׃ 6
I thought you were binding sheaves in the middle of the field, and my sheaf stood up and was erected, and your sheaves turned round, and did obeisance to my sheaf. behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold, your sheaves gathered round it, and bowed down to my sheaf."
- And his brethren said to him, Shalt you indeed reign over us, or shall you indeed be lord over us? And they hated him still more for his dreams and for his words. His brothers said to him, "Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to have dominion over us?" So they hated him yet more for his dreams and for his words.
And he dreamed another dream, and related it to his father, and to his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream: as it were the sun, and the moon, and the eleven stars did me reverence. Then he dreamed another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, "Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me."
10καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί τὸ ἐνύπνιον τοῦτο, ὃ ἐνυπνιάσθης; ἆρά γε ἐλθόντες ἐλευσόμεθα ἐγώ τε καὶ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου προσκυνῆσαί σοι ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν; And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream which you have dreamed? shall indeed both I and your mother and your brethren come and bow before you to the earth? But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him, and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?"
And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
And his brethren went to feed the sheep of their father to Sychem.Shechem - Joseph is sold and taken to Egypt. Gn.37.12-36Now his brothers went to pasture their father's flock near Shechem.
And Israel said to Joseph, Do not your brethren feed their flock in Sychem? Come, I will send you to them; and he said to him, Behold, I [am here]. And Israel said to Joseph, "Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them." And he said to him, "Here I am."
And Israel said to him, Go and see if your brethren and the sheep are well, and bring me word; and he sent him out of the valley of Chebron, and he came to Sychem. So he said to him, "Go now, see if it is well with your brothers, and with the flock; and bring me word again." So he sent him from the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
15καὶ εὗρεν αὐτὸν ἄνθρωπος πλανώμενον ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ· ἠρώτησεν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ ἄνθρωπος λέγων Τί ζητεῖς; And a man found him wandering in the field; and the man asked him, saying, What do you seek? And a man found him wandering in the fields; and the man asked him, "What are you seeking?"
And he said, I am seeking my brethren; tell me where they feed [their flocks]. "I am seeking my brothers," he said, "tell me, I pray you, where they are pasturing the flock."
And the man said to him, They have departed hence, for I heard them saying, Let us go to Dothaim; and Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothaim. And the man said, "They have gone away, for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers, and found them at Dothan.
And they spied him from a distance before he drew nigh to them, and they wickedly took counsel to slay him. They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.
19εἶπαν δὲ ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ Ἰδοὺ ὁ ἐνυπνιαστὴς ἐκεῖνος ἔρχεται· And each said to his brother, Behold, that dreamer comes. They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer.
Now then come, let us kill him, and cast him into one of the pits; and we will say, An evil wild beast has devoured him; and we shall see what his dreams will be. Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild beast has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams."
And Ruben having heard it, rescued him out of their hands, and said, Let us not kill him. But when Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life."
And Ruben said to them, Shed not blood; cast him into one of these pits in the wilderness, but do not lay [your] hands upon him; that he might rescue him out of their hands, and restore him to his father. And Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood; cast him into this pit here in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him" - that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.
23ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἦλθεν Ιωσηφ πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, ἐξέδυσαν τὸν Ιωσηφ τὸν χιτῶνα τὸν ποικίλον τὸν περὶ αὐτὸν And it came to pass, when Joseph came to his brethren, that they stripped Joseph of his many-coloured coat that was upon him. So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the long robe with sleeves that he wore;וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּא יֹוסֵף אֶל־אֶחָיו וַיַּפְשִׁיטוּ אֶת־יֹוסֵף אֶת־כֻּתָּנְתֹּו אֶת־כְּתֹנֶת הַפַּסִּים אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו׃ 23
And they took him and cast him into the pit; and the pit was empty, it had not water. and they took him and cast him into a pit. The pit was empty, there was no water in it.
And they sat down to eat bread; and having lifted up their eyes they beheld, and lo, Ismaelitish travellers came from Galaad, and their camels were heavily loaded with spices, and resin, and myrrh; and they went to bring them to Egypt. Then they sat down to eat; and looking up they saw a caravan of Ish'maelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt.
26εἶπεν δὲ Ιουδας πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ Τί χρήσιμον, ἐὰν ἀποκτείνωμεν τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν καὶ κρύψωμεν τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ; And Judas said to his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? Then Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?

Come, let us sell him to these Ismaelites, but let not our hands be upon him, because he is our brother and our flesh; and his brethren listened. Come, let us sell him to the Ish'maelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh." And his brothers heeded him.
And the men, the merchants of Madian, went by, and they drew and lifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ismaelites for twenty pieces of gold; and they brought Joseph down into Egypt. Then Mid'ianite traders passed by; and they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ish'maelites for twenty shekels of silver; and they took Joseph to Egypt.

And they sent the coat of many colours; and they brought it to their father, and said, This have we found; know if it be your son's coat or no. and they sent the long robe with sleeves and brought it to their father, and said, "This we have found; see now whether it is your son's robe or not."

And he recognised it, and said, It is my son's coat, an evil wild beast has devoured him; a wild beast has carried off Joseph. And he recognized it, and said, "It is my son's robe; a wild beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces."

And the Madianites sold Joseph into Egypt; to Petephres, the eunuch of Pharao, captain of the guard. Meanwhile the Mid'ianites had sold him in Egypt to Pot'i-phar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.
