| 1 | Ιωσηφ δὲ κατήχθη εἰς Αἴγυπτον, καὶ ἐκτήσατο αὐτὸν Πετεφρης ὁ εὐνοῦχος Φαραω, ἀρχιμάγειρος, ἀνὴρ Αἰγύπτιος, ἐκ χειρὸς Ισμαηλιτῶν, οἳ κατήγαγον αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ. | And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Petephres the eunuch of Pharao, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ismaelites, who brought him down thither. | Egypt - Joseph and Potiphar's wife. | 2 | καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιωσηφ, καὶ ἦν ἀνὴρ ἐπιτυγχάνων καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ τῷ Αἰγυπτίῳ. | And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house with his lord the Egyptian. | The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian, | וַיְהִי יְהוָה אֶת־יֹוסֵף וַיְהִי אִישׁ מַצְלִיחַ וַיְהִי בְּבֵית אֲדֹנָיו הַמִּצְרִי׃ | 2 | |
| 3 | ᾔδει δὲ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ ὅτι κύριος μετ' αὐτοῦ καὶ ὅσα ἂν ποιῇ, κύριος εὐοδοῖ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ. | And his master knew that the Lord was with him, and the Lord prospers in his hands whatsoever he happens to do. | and his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hands. | וַיַּרְא אֲדֹנָיו כִּי יְהוָה אִתֹּו וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר־הוּא עֹשֶׂה יְהוָה מַצְלִיחַ בְּיָדֹו׃ | 3 | |
| 4 | καὶ εὗρεν Ιωσηφ χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ, εὐηρέστει δὲ αὐτῷ, καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ, ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ. | And Joseph found grace in the presence of his lord, and was well-pleasing to him; and he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into the hand of Joseph. | So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. | וַיִּמְצָא יֹוסֵף חֵן בְּעֵינָיו וַיְשָׁרֶת אֹתֹו וַיַּפְקִדֵהוּ עַל־בֵּיתֹו וְכָל־יֶשׁ־לֹו נָתַן בְּיָדֹו׃ | 4 | |
| 5 | ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὸ κατασταθῆναι αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ, καὶ ηὐλόγησεν κύριος τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Αἰγυπτίου διὰ Ιωσηφ, καὶ ἐγενήθη εὐλογία κυρίου ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ. | And it came to pass after that he was set over his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all his possessions in the house, and in his field. | From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had, in house and field. | וַיְהִי מֵאָז הִפְקִיד אֹתֹו בְּבֵיתֹו וְעַל כָּל־אֲשֶׁר יֶשׁ־לֹו וַיְבָרֶךְ יְהוָה אֶת־בֵּית הַמִּצְרִי בִּגְלַל יֹוסֵף וַיְהִי בִּרְכַּת יְהוָה בְּכָל־אֲשֶׁר יֶשׁ־לֹו בַּבַּיִת וּבַשָּׂדֶה׃ | 5 | |
| 6 | καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν πάντα, ὅσα ἦν αὐτῷ, εἰς χεῖρας Ιωσηφ καὶ οὐκ ᾔδει τῶν καθ' ἑαυτὸν οὐδὲν πλὴν τοῦ ἄρτου, οὗ ἤσθιεν αὐτός. Καὶ ἦν Ιωσηφ καλὸς τῷ εἴδει καὶ ὡραῖος τῇ ὄψει σφόδρα. | And he committed all that he had into the hands of Joseph; and he knew not of anything that belonged to him, save the bread which he himself ate. And Joseph was handsome in form, and exceedingly beautiful in countenance. | So he left all that he had in Joseph's charge; and having him he had no concern for anything but the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome and good-looking. | וַיַּעֲזֹב כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֹו בְּיַד־יֹוסֵף וְלֹא־יָדַע אִתֹּו מְאוּמָה כִּי אִם־הַלֶּחֶם אֲשֶׁר־הוּא אֹוכֵל וַיְהִי יֹוסֵף יְפֵה־תֹאַר וִיפֵה מַרְאֶה׃ | 6 | |
| 7 | καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ἡ γυνὴ τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῆς ἐπὶ Ιωσηφ καὶ εἶπεν Κοιμήθητι μετ' ἐμοῦ. | And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, Lie with me. | And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, "Lie with me." | וַיְהִי אַחַר הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַתִּשָּׂא אֵשֶׁת־אֲדֹנָיו אֶת־עֵינֶיהָ אֶל־יֹוסֵף וַתֹּאמֶר שִׁכְבָה עִמִּי׃ | 7 | |
| 8 | ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἤθελεν, εἶπεν δὲ τῇ γυναικὶ τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ Εἰ ὁ κύριός μου οὐ γινώσκει δι' ἐμὲ οὐδὲν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐστὶν αὐτῷ, ἔδωκεν εἰς τὰς χεῖράς μου | But he would not; but said to his master's wife, If because of me my master knows nothing in his house, and has given into my hands all things that belong to him: | But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Lo, having me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my hand; | וַיְמָאֵן וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־אֵשֶׁת אֲדֹנָיו הֵן אֲדֹנִי לֹא־יָדַע אִתִּי מַה־בַּבָּיִת וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר־יֶשׁ־לֹו נָתַן בְּיָדִי׃ | 8 | |
| 9 | καὶ οὐχ ὑπερέχει ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ταύτῃ οὐθὲν ἐμοῦ οὐδὲ ὑπεξῄρηται ἀπ' ἐμοῦ οὐδὲν πλὴν σοῦ διὰ τὸ σὲ γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ εἶναι, καὶ πῶς ποιήσω τὸ ῥῆμα τὸ πονηρὸν τοῦτο καὶ ἁμαρτήσομαι ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ; | and in this house there is nothing above me, nor has anything been kept back from me, but you, because you are his wife-- how then shall I do this wicked thing, and sin against God? | he is not greater in this house than I am; nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" | אֵינֶנּוּ גָדֹול בַּבַּיִת הַזֶּה מִמֶּנִּי וְלֹא־חָשַׂךְ מִמֶּנִּי מְאוּמָה כִּי אִם־אֹותָךְ בַּאֲשֶׁר אַתְּ־אִשְׁתֹּו וְאֵיךְ אֶעֱשֶׂה הָרָעָה הַגְּדֹלָה הַזֹּאת וְחָטָאתִי לֵאלֹהִים׃ | 9 | |
| 10 | ἡνίκα δὲ ἐλάλει τῷ Ιωσηφ ἡμέραν ἐξ ἡμέρας, καὶ οὐχ ὑπήκουσεν αὐτῇ καθεύδειν μετ' αὐτῆς τοῦ συγγενέσθαι αὐτῇ. - | And when she talked with Joseph day by day, and he listened not to her to sleep with her, so as to be with her, | And although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie with her or to be with her. | וַיְהִי כְּדַבְּרָהּ אֶל־יֹוסֵף יֹום יֹום וְלֹא־שָׁמַע אֵלֶיהָ לִשְׁכַּב אֶצְלָהּ לִהְיֹות עִמָּהּ׃ | 10 | |
| 11 | ἐγένετο δὲ τοιαύτη τις ἡμέρα, εἰσῆλθεν Ιωσηφ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν ποιεῖν τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐθεὶς ἦν τῶν ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἔσω, | it came to pass on a certain day, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and there was no one of the household within. | But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, | וַיְהִי כְּהַיֹּום הַזֶּה וַיָּבֹא הַבַּיְתָה לַעֲשֹׂות מְלַאכְתֹּו וְאֵין אִישׁ מֵאַנְשֵׁי הַבַּיִת שָׁם בַּבָּיִת׃ | 11 | |
| 12 | καὶ ἐπεσπάσατο αὐτὸν τῶν ἱματίων λέγουσα Κοιμήθητι μετ' ἐμοῦ. καὶ καταλιπὼν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῆς ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω. | And she caught hold of him by his clothes, and said, Lie with me; and having left his clothes in her hands, he fled, and went forth. | she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and got out of the house. | וַתִּתְפְּשֵׂהוּ בְּבִגְדֹו לֵאמֹר שִׁכְבָה עִמִּי וַיַּעֲזֹב בִּגְדֹו בְּיָדָהּ וַיָּנָס וַיֵּצֵא הַחוּצָה׃ | 12 | |
| 13 | καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδεν ὅτι κατέλιπεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῆς καὶ ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω, | And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his clothes in her hands, and fled, and gone forth, | And when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled out of the house, | וַיְהִי כִּרְאֹותָהּ כִּי־עָזַב בִּגְדֹו בְּיָדָהּ וַיָּנָס הַחוּצָה׃ | 13 | |
| 14 | καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς λέγουσα Ἴδετε, εἰσήγαγεν ἡμῖν παῖδα Εβραῖον ἐμπαίζειν ἡμῖν· εἰσῆλθεν πρός με λέγων Κοιμήθητι μετ' ἐμοῦ, καὶ ἐβόησα φωνῇ μεγάλῃ· | that she called those that were in the house, and spoke to them, saying, See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew servant to mock us-- he came in to me, saying, Lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. | she called to the men of her household and said to them, "See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to insult us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice; | וַתִּקְרָא לְאַנְשֵׁי בֵיתָהּ וַתֹּאמֶר לָהֶם לֵאמֹר רְאוּ הֵבִיא לָנוּ אִישׁ עִבְרִי לְצַחֶק בָּנוּ בָּא אֵלַי לִשְׁכַּב עִמִּי וָאֶקְרָא בְּקֹול גָּדֹול׃ | 14 | |
| 15 | ἐν δὲ τῷ ἀκοῦσαι αὐτὸν ὅτι ὕψωσα τὴν φωνήν μου καὶ ἐβόησα, καταλιπὼν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ παρ' ἐμοὶ ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω. | And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, having left his clothes with m, he fled, and went forth out. | and when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled and got out of the house." | וַיְהִי כְשָׁמְעֹו כִּי־הֲרִימֹתִי קֹולִי וָאֶקְרָא וַיַּעֲזֹב בִּגְדֹו אֶצְלִי וַיָּנָס וַיֵּצֵא הַחוּצָה׃ | 15 | |
| 16 | καὶ καταλιμπάνει τὰ ἱμάτια παρ' ἑαυτῇ, ἕως ἦλθεν ὁ κύριος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ. | So she leaves the clothes by her, until the master came to his house. | Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home, | וַתַּנַּח בִּגְדֹו אֶצְלָהּ עַד־בֹּוא אֲדֹנָיו אֶל־בֵּיתֹו׃ | 16 | |
| 17 | καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ κατὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα λέγουσα Εἰσῆλθεν πρός με ὁ παῖς ὁ Εβραῖος, ὃν εἰσήγαγες πρὸς ἡμᾶς, ἐμπαῖξαί μοι καὶ εἶπέν μοι Κοιμηθήσομαι μετὰ σοῦ· | And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, whom you brought in to us, came in to me to mock me, and said to me, I will lie with you. | and she told him the same story, saying, "The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to insult me; | וַתְּדַבֵּר אֵלָיו כַּדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה לֵאמֹר בָּא־אֵלַי הָעֶבֶד הָעִבְרִי אֲשֶׁר־הֵבֵאתָ לָּנוּ לְצַחֶק בִּי׃ | 17 | |
| 18 | ὡς δὲ ἤκουσεν ὅτι ὕψωσα τὴν φωνήν μου καὶ ἐβόησα, κατέλιπεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ παρ' ἐμοὶ καὶ ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω. | And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, having left his clothes with me, he fled and departed forth. | but as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled out of the house." | וַיְהִי כַּהֲרִימִי קֹולִי וָאֶקְרָא וַיַּעֲזֹב בִּגְדֹו אֶצְלִי וַיָּנָס הַחוּצָה׃ | 18 | |
| 19 | ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἤκουσεν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ τὰ ῥήματα τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ, ὅσα ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα Οὕτως ἐποίησέν μοι ὁ παῖς σου, καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ. | And it came to pass, when his master heard all the words of his wife, that she spoke to him, saying, Thus did your servant to me, that he was very angry. | When his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, "This is the way your servant treated me," his anger was kindled. | וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ אֲדֹנָיו אֶת־דִּבְרֵי אִשְׁתֹּו אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּרָה אֵלָיו לֵאמֹר כַּדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה עָשָׂהּ לִי עַבְדֶּךָ וַיִּחַר אַפֹּו׃ | 19 | |
| 20 | καὶ λαβὼν ὁ κύριος Ιωσηφ ἐνέβαλεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ ὀχύρωμα, εἰς τὸν τόπον, ἐν ᾧ οἱ δεσμῶται τοῦ βασιλέως κατέχονται ἐκεῖ ἐν τῷ ὀχυρώματι. | And his master took Joseph, and cast him into the prison, into the place where the king's prisoners are kept, there in the prison. | And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. | וַיִּקַּח אֲדֹנֵי יֹוסֵף אֹתֹו וַיִּתְּנֵהוּ אֶל־בֵּית הַסֹּהַר מְקֹום אֲשֶׁר־[כ= אֲסוּרֵי] [ק= אֲסִירֵי] הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲסוּרִים וַיְהִי־שָׁם בְּבֵית הַסֹּהַר׃ | 20 | |
| 21 | Καὶ ἦν κύριος μετὰ Ιωσηφ καὶ κατέχεεν αὐτοῦ ἔλεος καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ χάριν ἐναντίον τοῦ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλακος, | And the Lord was with Joseph, and poured down mercy upon him; and he gave him favour in the sight of the chief keeper of the prison. | But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. | וַיְהִי יְהוָה אֶת־יֹוסֵף וַיֵּט אֵלָיו חָסֶד וַיִּתֵּן חִנֹּו בְּעֵינֵי שַׂר בֵּית־הַסֹּהַר׃ | 21 | |
| 22 | καὶ ἔδωκεν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλαξ τὸ δεσμωτήριον διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀπηγμένους, ὅσοι ἐν τῷ δεσμωτηρίῳ, καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ποιοῦσιν ἐκεῖ. | And the chief keeper of the prison gave the prison into the hand of Joseph, and all the prisoners as many as were in the prison; and all things whatsoever they do there, he did them. | And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's care all the prisoners who were in the prison; and whatever was done there, he was the doer of it; | וַיִּתֵּן שַׂר בֵּית־הַסֹּהַר בְּיַד־יֹוסֵף אֵת כָּל־הָאֲסִירִם אֲשֶׁר בְּבֵית הַסֹּהַר וְאֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר עֹשִׂים שָׁם הוּא הָיָה עֹשֶׂה׃ | 22 | |
| 23 | οὐκ ἦν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλαξ τοῦ δεσμωτηρίου γινώσκων δι' αὐτὸν οὐθέν· πάντα γὰρ ἦν διὰ χειρὸς Ιωσηφ διὰ τὸ τὸν κύριον μετ' αὐτοῦ εἶναι, καὶ ὅσα αὐτὸς ἐποίει, κύριος εὐώδου ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ. | Because of him the chief keeper of the prison knew nothing, for all things were in the hand of Joseph, because the Lord was with him; and whatever things he did, the Lord made them to prosper in his hands. | the keeper of the prison paid no heed to anything that was in Joseph's care, because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made it prosper. | אֵין שַׂר בֵּית־הַסֹּהַר רֹאֶה אֶת־כָּל־מְאוּמָה בְּיָדֹו בַּאֲשֶׁר יְהוָה אִתֹּו וַאֲשֶׁר־הוּא עֹשֶׂה יְהוָה מַצְלִיחַ׃ ס | 23 | |
