1 Regnavit autem Josaphat filius ejus pro eo, et invaluit contra Israël. Forsothe Josaphat, his sone, regnyde for hym; and he hadde the maistrye ayens Israel. And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel. JEHOSHAPHAT king of Judah. 2Chr.17.1-9
2 Constituitque militum numeros in cunctis urbibus Juda quæ erant vallatæ muris. Præsidiaque disposuit in terra Juda, et in civitatibus Ephraim quas ceperat Asa pater ejus. And he settide noumbris of knyytis in alle the citees of Juda, that weren cumpassid with wallis, and he disposide strong holdis in the lond of Juda, and in the citees of Effraym, whiche Asa, his fadir, hadde take. And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.  
3 Et fuit Dominus cum Josaphat, quia ambulavit in viis David patris sui primis: et non speravit in Baalim, And the Lord was with Josaphat, whiche yede in the firste weies of Dauid, his fadir; he hopide not in Baalym, And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim,  
4 sed in Deo patris sui: et perrexit in præceptis illius, et non juxta peccata Israël. but in the Lord God of Dauid, his fadir, and he yede in the comaundementis of God, and not bi the synnes of Israel. But in the God of his father, and walk in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel.  
5 Confirmavitque Dominus regnum in manu ejus, et dedit omnis Juda munera Josaphat: factæque sunt ei infinitæ divitiæ, et multa gloria. And the Lord confermyde the rewme in his hond; and al Juda yaf yiftis to Josaphat, and ritchessis with outen noumbre, and myche glorie weren maad to hym. And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory.  
6 Cumque sumpsisset cor ejus audaciam propter vias Domini, etiam excelsa et lucos de Juda abstulit. And whanne his herte hadde take hardynesse for the weies of the Lord, he took awei also hiy placis and wodis fro Juda. And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda.  
7 Tertio autem anno regni sui misit de principibus suis Benhail, et Obdiam, et Zachariam, et Nathanaël, et Michæam, ut docerent in civitatibus Juda: Forsothe in the thridde yeer of his rewme he sente of hise princes Benail, and Abdie, and Zacarie, and Nathanael, and Mychee, that thei schulden teche in the citees of Juda; And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cities of Juda:  
8 et cum eis Levitas Semeiam, et Nathaniam, et Zabadiam, Asaël quoque, et Semiramoth, et Jonathan, Adoniamque et Thobiam, et Thobadoniam Levitas, et cum eis Elisama, et Joran sacerdotes: and with hem he sente dekenes Semeye, and Nathanye, and Zabadie, and Azahel, and Semyramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonye, and Thobie, and Abadonye, dekenes; and with hem he sente Elisama and Joram, preestis; And with them the Levites, Semeias, end Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests.  
9 docebantque populum in Juda, habentes librum legis Domini, et circuibant cunctas urbes Juda, atque erudiebant populum. and thei tauyten the puple in Juda, and hadden the book of the lawe of the Lord; and thei cumpassiden alle the citees of Juda, and tauyten al the puple. And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.  
10 Itaque factus est pavor Domini super omnia regna terrarum quæ erant per gyrum Juda, nec audebant bellare contra Josaphat. Therfor the drede of the Lord was maad on al the rewmes of londis, that weren bi cumpas of Juda; and tho dursten not fiyte ayens Josaphat. And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat. Jehoshephat's greatness. 2Chr.17.10-19
11 Sed et Philisthæi Josaphat munera deferebant, et vectigal argenti: Arabes quoque adducebant pecora, arietum septem millia septingenta, et hircorum totidem. But also Filisteis brouyten yiftis to Josaphat, and tol of siluer; and men of Arabie brouyten scheep seuene thousynde, and seuene hundrid of wetheris, and so many buckis of geet. The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he goats.  
12 Crevit ergo Josaphat, et magnificatus est usque in sublime: atque ædificavit in Juda domos ad instar turrium, urbesque muratas. Therfor Josaphat encreesside, and was magnified til in to an hiy; and he bildide in Juda housis at the licnesse of touris, and stronge citees; And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities.  
13 Et multa opera paravit in urbibus Juda: viri quoque bellatores et robusti erant in Jerusalem, and he made redi many werkis in the citees of Juda. Also men werriouris and stronge men weren in Jerusalem; And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem.  
14 quorum iste numerus per domos atque familias singulorum: in Juda principes exercitus, Ednas dux, et cum eo robustissimi viri trecenta millia. of whiche this is the noumbre, bi the housis and meynees of alle in Juda. Duyk Eduas was prince of the oost, and with hym weren thre hundrid thousynde ful stronge men. Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.  
15 Post hunc Johanan princeps, et cum eo ducenta octoginta millia. Aftir hym was Johannan prince, and with hym weren two hundrid thousynde and foure scoore thousynde. After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.  
16 Post istum quoque Amasias filius Zechri, consecratus Domino, et cum eo ducenta millia virorum fortium. After this also Amasye, the sone of Zechri, was halewid to the Lord, and with hym weren two hundrid thousynde of stronge men. And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men.  
17 Hunc sequebatur robustus ad prælia Eliada, et cum eo tenentium arcum et clypeum ducenta millia. Eliada myyti to batels suede this Amasie, and with hym weren two hundrid thousynde of men holdynge bouwe and scheeld. After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.  
18 Post istum etiam Jozabad, et cum eo centum octoginta millia expeditorum militum. Aftir this was also Josaphat, and with hym weren an hundrid thousynde and foure scoore thousynde of redi knyytis. After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war.  
19 Hi omnes erant ad manum regis, exceptis aliis quos posuerat in urbibus muratis in universo Juda. Alle these weren at the hond of the kyng, outakun othere, whiche he hadde put in wallid cytees and in al Juda. All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda.
