Therfor al Israel was gaderid to Dauid in Ebron, and seide, We ben thi boon and thi fleisch; Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh. DAVID king of Israel & Judah. 1Chr.11.1-9 | 2Sm.5.1-10
Heri quoque et nudiustertius cum adhuc regnaret Saul, tu eras qui educebas, et introducebas Israël: tibi enim dixit Dominus Deus tuus: Tu pasces populum meum Israël, et tu eris princeps super eum. also yisterdai and the thridde dai ago, whanne Saul regnede yit on Israel, thou it were that leddist out and leddist in Israel; for thi Lord God seide to thee, Thou schalt fede my puple Israel, and thou schalt be prince on it. Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.
Venerunt ergo omnes majores natu Israël ad regem in Hebron, et iniit David cum eis fœdus coram Domino: unxeruntque eum regem super Israël, juxta sermonem Domini, quem locutus est in manu Samuel. Therfor alle the gretter in birthe of Israel camen to the kyng in Ebron; and Dauid maad with hem a boond of pees bifor the Lord, and thei anoyntiden hym kyng on Israel, bi the word of the Lord, which he spak in the hond of Samuel. So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.
Abiit quoque David, et omnis Israël in Jerusalem: hæc est Jebus, ubi erant Jebusæi habitatores terræ. Therfor Dauid yede, and al Israel, in to Jerusalem; this Jerusalem is Jebus, where Jebuseis enhabiteris of the lond weren. And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.
Porro David cepit arcem Sion, quæ est civitas David, And thei that dwelliden at Jebus seiden to Dauid, Thou schalt not entre hidur. Forsothe Dauid took the hiy tour of Syon, which is the citee of Dauid; And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.
dixitque: Omnis qui percusserit Jebusæum in primis, erit princeps, et dux. Ascendit igitur primus Joab filius Sarviæ, et factus est princeps. and he seide, Ech man that sleeth first Jebusei, schal be prince and duyk. Therfor Joab, sone of Saruye, stiede first, and was maad prince. And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.
Sotheli Dauid dwellide in the hiy tour, and therfor it was clepid the cytee of Dauid; And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.
Ædificavitque urbem in circuitu a Mello usque ad gyrum, Joab autem reliqua urbis exstruxit. and he bildide the citee in cumpas fro Mello til to the cumpas; forsothe Joab bildide the tother part of the citee. And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.
And Dauid profitide goynge and wexynge, and the Lord of oostis was with hym. And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.
These ben the princes of the stronge men of Dauid, that helpiden hym, that he schulde be kyng on al Israel, bi the word of the Lord which he spak to Israel. These are the chief of the valiant men of David, who helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel. David's famous soldiers. 1Chr.11.10-47 | 2Sm.23.8-39
Et iste numerus robustorum David: Jesbaam filius Hachamoni princeps inter triginta: iste levavit hastam suam super trecentos vulneratos una vice. And this is the noumbre of the stronge men of Dauid; Jesbaam, the sone of Achamony, was prince among thretti; this reiside his schaft ethir spere on thre hundrid woundid men in o tyme. And this is the number of the heroes of David: Jesbaam the son of Hachamoni the chief among the thirty: he lifted up his spear against three hundred wounded by him at one time.
And after hym was Eleazar, the sone of his fadris brothir, and was a man of Ahoit, which Eleazar was among thre miyti men. And after him was Eleazar his uncle's son the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.
Iste fuit cum David in Phesdomim, quando Philisthiim congregati sunt ad locum illum in prælium: et erat ager regionis illius plenus hordeo, fugeratque populus a facie Philisthinorum. This was with Dauid in Aphesdomyn, whanne Filisteis weren gaderid to o place in to batel; and a feeld of that cuntrey was ful of barli, and the puple fledde fro the face of Filisteis. He was with David in Phesdomim, when the Philistines were gathered to that place to battle: and the field of that country was full of barley, and the people fled from before the Philistines.
Hi steterunt in medio agri, et defenderunt eum: cumque percussissent Philisthæos, dedit Dominus salutem magnam populo suo. This Eleazar stood in the myddis of the feeld, and defendide it; and whanne he hadde slayn Filisteis, the Lord yaf greet helthe to his puple. But these men stood in the midst of the field, and defended it: and they slew the Philistines, and the Lord gave a great deliverance to his people.
Sotheli thre of thritti princes yeden doun to the stoon, wher ynne Dauid was, to the denne of Odolla, whanne Filisteis settiden tentis in the valey of Raphaym. And three of the thirty captains went down to the rock, wherein David was, to the cave of Odollam, when the Philistines encamped in the valley of Raphaim.
Porro David erat in præsidio, et statio Philisthinorum in Bethlehem. Forsothe Dauid was in a strong hold, and the stacioun, that is, the oost gaderid, of Filisteis was in Bethleem. And David was in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines in Bethlehem.
Therfor Dauid desiride watir, and seide, Y wolde, that sum man yaf to me water of the cisterne of Bethleem, which is in the yate. And David longed, and said: O that some man would give me water of the cistern of Bethlehem, which is in the gate.
Qui noluit, sed magis libavit illam Domino, Therfor these thre yeden thoruy the myddil of the castelis of Filisteis, and drowen watir of the cisterne of Bethleem, that was in the yate, and thei brouyten to Dauid, that he schulde drynke; and Dauid nolde drynke it, but rather he offride it to the Lord, and seide, Fer be it, And these three broke through the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem, which was in the gate, and brought it to David to drink: and he would not drink of it, but rather offered it to the Lord,
dicens: Absit ut in conspectu Dei mei hoc faciam, et sanguinem istorum virorum bibam: quia in periculo animarum suarum attulerunt mihi aquam. Et ob hanc causam noluit bibere: hæc fecerunt tres robustissimi. that Y do this thing in the siyt of my God, and that Y drynke the blood of these men, for in the perel of her lyues thei brouyten watir to me; and for this cause he nolde drynke. Thre strongeste men diden these thingis. Saying: God forbid that I should do this in the sight of my God, and should drink the blood of these men: for with the danger of their lives they have brought me the water. And therefore he would not drink. These things did the three most valiant.
